These hands-on tools have completely changed the way my students think about numbers. We've been using them daily during math lessons to really focus on place value and even broadening the benchmark to include practice with expanded form, expanded notation, and determining values that are 10 times or 1/10 of. \r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the flip boards, their excitement was contagious- they love anything that is tangible and they can control as opposed to simple paper and pencil. Their eagerness to dive in showed me just how engaging these resources are.\r\n\r\nOur next steps will be using the boards as we move into multiplication and division. The boards will help students visualize these operations with place value and strengthen their understanding as they take on more challenging concepts.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, math has become more interactive, and students who once hesitated now feel empowered to take risks and share their thinking. You have given my students a tool that not only supports their learning but also sparks their joy in math.","fullyFundedDate":1753387478723,"projectUrl":"project/its-all-about-that-base-ten/9359468/","projectTitle":"It's All About That Base (Ten)!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Ostebo","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9995024_orig.png?crop=350,350,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1744215424184","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9995024"},{"teacherId":9995024,"projectId":9251555,"letterContent":"Because of your generous support, my students now have access to a wonderful variety of new books that are transforming the way they experience reading. These texts are helping us explore key reading skills like making inferences, identifying main ideas, and comparing characters across different stories. Instead of just practicing skills from a worksheet, my students are applying them directly to books they are genuinely excited to read.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading now feels alive. Students curl up on their comfy cushions with their books during independent reading, share discoveries with partners, and dive into group discussions where they practice using text evidence to support their ideas.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to use these books in small-group literature circles, where students will practice higher-level skills like analyzing themes and comparing texts. Thanks to you, they have books that match their interests and challenge them to grow as readers.\r\n\r\nYour gift has truly opened doors for my students, and I cannot thank you enough for making reading such a meaningful and exciting part of our classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1746786122579,"projectUrl":"project/donut-you-want-to-read/9251555/","projectTitle":"Donut You Want to Read?","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Ostebo","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9995024_orig.png?crop=350,350,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1744215424184","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9995024"},{"teacherId":9995024,"projectId":9249241,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generosity, my students now have the math resources they need to build confidence and excitement in learning! We've already started using the materials during small-group lessons and hands-on math stations. One of the most memorable moments was watching my students' faces light up the first time they got to use the new tools to solve place value and multiplication/division problems- they couldn't stop sharing their strategies with each other!\r\n\r\nThese resources have helped turn math into something interactive and fun. Instead of just working problems on paper, my students are able to model their thinking, test out ideas, and explain their reasoning in ways that build true understanding. Several students who often feel hesitant in math are now raising their hands with pride because the tools help them \"see\" the math more clearly.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to use these resources as we dive deeper into multiplication, division, and problem-solving projects. It's so loved that we even had to have a class discussion about keeping the apples at school. My students enjoy counting and matching the apples to the mats, which reinforces one-to-one correspondence and strengthens their voice-to-number matching for accurate counting.\r\n\r\nThe math activity center has been especially helpful during small groups.
