For many students, they don't the opportunity to truly go through the creative design process and the engineering design process while in middle school. Because of your generous donation, the kids and I have been embarking on a series of projects that allow us to do just that.\r\n\r\nOur first project that you see is our bridge design. Students researched the six main types of bridges used in the world, and then 3 famous bridges. From there, they designed a bridge of their own within a given set of parameters and once finished, will be judged by a team of engineer dads on quality and ability to hold the most weight. Next up is our roller coaster design. Students have to build a roller coaster for a theme park that allows a marble to continuously roll for 13 seconds using a set of constraints. Finally, if given enough time, we will build a car to roll down a wooden ramp that must hold an egg that can't get broken when it crashes into a wall.\r\n\r\nAll of these projects allow students to test their own creativity with real world situations that require careful thought and feedback. With every project, they resist me more and more, but also with every project, their problem-solving skills, cooperative learning skills, and creativity are flourishing. They come to class ready to work and put in full effort. \r\n\r\nThis is all possible due to your generosity, and we are eternally grateful for everything!","fullyFundedDate":1768313198419,"projectUrl":"project/makerspace-for-the-engineering-design-pr/9963593/","projectTitle":"Makerspace for the Engineering Design Process","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Milavickas","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10387032"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_133544","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":317,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":53,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":18,"percentWhite":48,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":19,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":5,"gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Record","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":null},"inStateSupporters":100.0,"schoolId":133544,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Mangrove Bay Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Mangrove Bay Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/florida/pinellas-county-schools/mangrove-bay-middle-school/133544"}
