The children have already picked the colored book bags of their choice and have books in them that they can read during independent reading time. The bags are a perfect size and hang from magnets attached to their desks. In a few weeks, they will be taking the bags home at the end of each day. \r\n\r\nThe mesh pouches are wonderful for storing our Math and Literacy center games. The children know each game is in a bag with the materials they need to complete that activity. My students gathered around like it was a treasure chest being opened—eyes wide, voices buzzing with curiosity. \"Are these really for us?\" one student asked. The moment we placed the new books in our reading corner, kids couldn't wait to dive in. Within minutes, they were curled up with bean bags and books in hand, proudly pointing out words they could read and illustrations that made them laugh.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nWe've started using the new supplies during reading time, and it's been incredible to watch their confidence grow. One of our favorite activities has been our \"Reading Crew\" challenge—students work together in small groups, each reading at their own level and earning \"gold coins\" for fluency and effort. These books make it possible to give every child just the right amount of support and challenge.\r\n\r\nThe supplies have also helped us create literacy centers and take-home book bags, which are giving families an opportunity to share in their child's learning journey. I've already heard from parents who are amazed at how eager their children are to read every night!\r\n\r\nNext, we're working on a pirate-themed reading adventure, where students will \"sail\" through different genres and reading levels. With every story they read, they earn pieces of a treasure map. These new texts enrich our classroom library and provide my students with a wide variety of authors and themes. \r\n\r\nIn my classroom, reading is loved. Students read daily. They read independently for 15 minutes and book shop weekly for books on their level, below their level and above their level. They get to choose a comfortable spot to sit in, whether it be the couch, a cushion, a special chair, etc. and they read read read. They also listen to me read daily. We have so many opportunities for reading! They are so excited about these new books and are already enjoying them each and every day.
