It has benefitted my classroom in so many ways. Teachers always have a vision for how they want their classroom to look. You have helped me with achieving that goal. I look around my room and smile at how far I have come as a teacher. I am more organized now than ever, and I have you to thank. \r\n\r\nOne of the biggest assets to my room is the chart paper that was on my donation list. My seniors are currently reading Macbeth. The chart paper has been perfect for me displaying notes for each scene of the play. And there are a lot of notes! When I walk into my classroom, I am surrounded by novels. There's a joy I feel as a teacher. I want that same feeling for my students. Despite the fact that students would rather deal with technology, there is a sense of calm that i see in them when they are reading a book. Even students that I never thought I would see reading a novel have taken interest.\r\n\r\nThis past semester, I incorporated 20 min of reading time and journal writing each week. Technology is great, but there is so much more to education than that. I don't want my students to miss out on the power of reading and a good book. It slows down their mind and teaches them to be in the moment. I don't want them staring at screens all of the time. They do that at home. I want them to see that books are still meaningful. I grew up in the 90s. As much as I loved video games and tv, my favorite memories were spending time in the library picking out books. I hope to bring that same love to my students. They may be graduating in 1-2 years, but they are never too old to love reading.\r\n\r\nThey will have a variety of books to choose from for independent reading and journal writing. They will commit to the book until they complete it while summarizing theme, main idea, and character development. Our Veterinary Academy serves many students who are compassionate and vulnerable. Also, in the veterinary industry there are mental health concerns and high burnout rates. We teach our students ways to deal with these emotions and stressors now and in their future. Today, we are reaching out to express our deepest gratitude for your generous support and to share the profound impact your contribution has made on our students' well-being.\r\n\r\nThanks to your kindness, our classroom now features beanbag chairs that offer flexible seating options, a mental health infographic book specifically designed for teens, and a variety of fidget items that provide a healthy outlet for anxiety and energy. Each of these items play a crucial role in creating a classroom atmosphere that prioritizes mental health and emotional well-being.\r\n\r\nBeanbag Chairs for Flexible Seating\r\nThe introduction of beanbag chairs has been a game-changer for our students. These chairs provide a comfortable and relaxed seating option that can adapt to the individual needs of each student. Whether a student is feeling overwhelmed and needs a moment of quiet reflection or simply prefers a more informal seating arrangement, these chairs have become a haven of comfort and calm. By offering flexible seating, we are able to accommodate different learning styles and create a more inclusive and engaging classroom environment.\r\n\r\nMental Health Infographic Book for Teens\r\nOur new mental health infographic book is an invaluable resource for our students. This book provides easy-to-understand information on various mental health topics, helping teens to better understand their own emotions and the emotions of those around them. It serves as a tool for education and empowerment, encouraging students to seek help when needed and to support one another. The book has sparked important conversations about mental health, reducing stigma and fostering a culture of openness and understanding.\r\n\r\nFidget Items\r\nFidget items have proven to be highly effective in helping students manage anxiety and maintain focus. These small, discreet tools allow students to channel their excess energy in a positive way, promoting concentration and reducing stress. Students who previously struggled to stay engaged in class are now able to participate more fully, thanks to the calming effects of these fidget items. They have become an integral part of our strategy to support students with diverse needs and to ensure that every student has the opportunity to succeed.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has made all of this possible. By investing in the mental health and well-being of our students, you have helped to create a more compassionate and supportive educational environment. The impact of your contribution is immeasurable, touching the lives of each student and fostering a community where everyone can flourish.","fullyFundedDate":1725807335322,"projectUrl":"project/learning-to-care-for-our-mental-health-i/8737207/","projectTitle":"Learning to care for our mental health in veterinary medicine!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Brown","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4447516_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1494242318104","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4447516"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_42416","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1141,"numTeachers":35,"percentFrplEligible":64,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":42,"percentWhite":10,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":42,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"32.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":49.2,"schoolId":42416,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about South Tech Academy on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"South Tech Academy","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/florida/palm-beach-county-public-schools/south-tech-academy/42416"}
