Students need to be more engaged with their learning and lessons. I've found that just going through slides or using worksheets is not going to keep them interested, and therefore makes it hard for them to succeed in class. Nearpod has really helped improve engagement in my class as students get to post on collaborative boards to see other responses, digitally share and draw pictures of different concepts we are learning about, and answer review questions in a way where I can monitor my whole class at once to see who may need more help. This has been invaluable as a teacher, and I did not want to lose this resource for the upcoming school year when the district announced they would not be renewing their Nearpod license.\r\n\r\nI am so grateful for your support on this project. It has saved one of my favorite parts of the day, which is our novel studies. Each day we spend about 15 minutes reading a chapter of a story and reviewing the comprehension and vocabulary in a fun way afterwards with a Time to Climb game. Students answer multiple choice questions and see their character climb a mountain in a race against their classmates. They have fun with the game, but it also opens up the door to getting them interested in reading longer chapter books on their own. Most of the books I read do have sequels I encourage them to check out and read independently when we are done. This helps my 4th graders graduate from picture books and dig into those more complex themes in chapter books. I have always loved reading, and am determined each year to help every kid in my class find that one book or series that they love to read, too.\r\n\r\nThank you again for all your help! I knew that you cared as much as I did about helping my students learn how to express their feelings so others could understand them. Thank you so much for contributing to this amazing project; your generous donation will help many students at Tildenville Elementary School. The materials purchased can be used for kindergarten through 5th-grade students and allow them to develop the skills they will need to understand what they are feeling now and in the future. \r\n\r\nWhen I read the first book with my kindergarteners, and we followed it up with an activity from the Learning Kindness activity book, they asked when they could come back and learn more. That is the excitement that all learning should have, and through your donation, you have helped make learning something my students want more of. The first topic we covered is that it is okay to be scared. We read about Spot and then acted out what they might have done if they were in Spot's place. Then, we wrote down what we were afraid of by drawing a picture. The students shared, and the others gave ideas on what they could do not to feel scared. We also talked about who we could go to if we were afraid at home, school, or in public. Giving the skills and a safe place to try them out benefits my students.\r\n\r\nMy students have learned that body language is one way they can show how they are feeling. I had the students practice what their bodies could look like if they were sad, happy, scared, or surprised. They had a lot of fun seeing how other people's bodies looked different. Body language is a big part of showing emotions.\r\n\r\nThank you so much for your wonderful contribution to our feelings project. We are just getting started, but I know that so many of my students will better understand that feelings are okay because they will have the necessary skills to understand them and ways to handle them. You have given them an incredible lifelong skill. Thank you again.","fullyFundedDate":1727992397359,"projectUrl":"project/emotions-are-okay-i-need-help-to-unders/8469631/","projectTitle":"Emotions Are Okay, I Need Help to Understand them.","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Hennighan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9576572"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_46737","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":738,"numTeachers":39,"percentFrplEligible":34,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":13,"percentWhite":34,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":46,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"18.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":80.4,"schoolId":46737,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Tildenville Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Tildenville Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/florida/orange-county-public-schools/tildenville-elementary-school/46737"}
