Reading time is one of the most anticipated parts of our day, and the new books have given students access to a wider variety of texts that match their interests and reading levels. These books help us teach important literacy skills such as comprehension, making predictions, identifying characters and settings, retelling stories, and building vocabulary. Most importantly, they help students see themselves as readers and develop a genuine love of books.\r\nIn our classroom, reading looks like students gathered around for interactive read-alouds, partnering up to discuss stories, and independently exploring books that excite them. The new library has made it easier for every child to find a book they are eager to read. Students who were previously hesitant to pick up a book are now excited to browse the shelves and share their favorite stories with classmates. The variety of books has helped increase engagement and foster meaningful conversations about what we are reading.\r\nThe joy these books have brought to our classroom is evident every day. Students frequently ask for extra reading time and are eager to recommend books to one another. Seeing their excitement as they discover new characters, topics, and adventures has been incredibly rewarding. Thanks to your generosity, our first graders have access to books that inspire curiosity, strengthen literacy skills, and build confidence.
