This set of resources has provided me with so many books and activities to meet the needs of students. The conversation cards are a great resource to build rapport when I first start working with a student. They are also a good tool to build relationships and conversations in small groups. The jumbo flashcards help students connect facial expressions to specific emotions. This can help them recognize their own emotions and emotions in others. I pull out the matching plushie each time we discuss a specific feeling or emotion. The plushie gives the student a tangible object and reminder. I store the plushies in the corner of my office so students can see the reminders each time they enter. These hand-on resources provided a good opportunity to engage students beyond just reading the books. \r\nThese books have provided a wonderful way to discuss feelings and emotions and to segue into developing appropriate strategies for dealing with uncomfortable feelings I have been able to use the book \"A Little Spot of Anxiety\" to help a third grader recognize his feelings and develop coping strategies. I have used a \"A Little Spot of Feelings\", emotion cards, and plushies with three second graders to help them explore and understand their emotions. I have used \"A Little Spot of Anger\" to help a second and third grader discuss their inappropriate reactions when angry. We discussed that anger is a normal emotion and everyone feels it. The important learning for these students was to learn to manage their anger in ways that did not get them in trouble. Literature provides a great springboard for social emotional learning.","fullyFundedDate":1771662340198,"projectUrl":"project/social-emotional-learning-resources/10107673/","projectTitle":"Social Emotional Learning Resources","teacherDisplayName":"Dr. Blake-Griffin","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9104082_orig.jpg?crop=1484,1484,x0,y44&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1705800164251","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9104082"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_46623","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":794,"numTeachers":50,"percentFrplEligible":53,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":9,"percentWhite":67,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":12,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"15.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":56.8,"schoolId":46623,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Bob Sikes Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Bob Sikes Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/florida/okaloosa-county-school-district/bob-sikes-elementary-school/46623"}
