The moment the boxes were brought into our classroom, my students gasped with excitement and couldn't wait to see what was inside. Unpacking the brand-new recess equipment and assembling our transport cart felt like it was Christmas in August, and recess has quickly become the absolute highlight of our school day.\r\n\r\nHaving access to this new equipment has made a massive impact on my students' daily lives. It gets everyone moving, which helps them burn off excess energy and return to class calm, focused, and ready to learn. Students who used to sit on the sidelines are now eagerly joining in, learning essential social skills like teamwork, fair play, and inclusion.\r\n\r\nThe new transport cart has also been a complete game-changer for our routine. Moving all our gear out to the field and back inside is now effortless, and the kids take great pride in taking turns wheeling the cart and keeping everything organized. Moving forward, we are using this excitement to build long-term habits around daily fitness and cooperative play. Through Esperanza's journey, my students developed a deeper understanding of empathy as they learned to see life through someone else's experiences and challenges. They had meaningful discussions about hardship, family, change, and how people overcome difficult situations. One of the greatest lessons they took away was perseverance — understanding that giving up is never an option and that obstacles can be overcome with determination and hope.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is an active and engaging experience. Students participate in class discussions, collaborative activities, and reflective writing that encourage them to think deeply about the text. They enjoy sharing predictions, discussing important moments, and making personal connections to the story.\r\n\r\nSeveral students became especially invested in Esperanza's story because they could relate to themes of family, overcoming challenges, and adapting to change. Seeing students become emotionally connected to the characters and excited to discuss each chapter has been one of the most rewarding outcomes. They were especially excited to uncover similes, metaphors, and personification throughout the novel—often racing to point out examples and explain how these literary devices helped bring Bud's journey to life. The historical backdrop of the Great Depression also sparked meaningful conversations about resilience, family, and perseverance.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom has become a lively, collaborative experience. Students read in pairs, annotate their own copies, and eagerly share predictions, reflections, and figurative language discoveries during discussions. Several normally hesitant students have begun participating more confidently.
