Before this project, we struggled with a cluttered entryway; the children's heavy book bags and water bottles often ended up piled on the floor or precariously stacked on a small shelf, leading to spills and frustration. Now, each one of our little learners has their own designated space. We start our day with an \"Organization Moment,\" where students practice the important skill of taking responsibility for their belongings by placing their items neatly into their own cubby. This simple addition has dramatically streamlined our morning routine, saving valuable time that we can now dedicate to learning centers. A specific moment that highlights their use occurred during our 'All About Me' theme. We used the top of the cubbies as a \"Show and Tell Showcase\" where students briefly displayed a chosen treasure from home. It was a beautiful example of how this new resource provides structure while still allowing for joyful, personal expression in our learning environment.\r\nThe students' reaction to the cubbies was one of pure excitement and ownership. When they first saw the bright, individual compartments, they immediately started pointing and asking, \"Is that mine?\" We made a big event out of assigning \"cubby numbers,\" which instantly turned the storage unit into a personalized piece of classroom furniture. They loved the novelty of having their own private nook for their things. The best part is the immediate increase in independenceāthe children no longer rely on me or a teaching assistant to find their water bottle or their snack bag; they know exactly where their items are, fostering a wonderful sense of competence and pride in their ability to manage their own space.\r\nš What's Next for Our Pre-K Explorers\r\nAs we master the skill of organization, our current classroom focus is transitioning into a deep dive on patterns and sequencing. Our next step is to use our newfound organizational skills in a more academic way. We will be using manipulatives like colored blocks and counting bears to build complex A-B-A-B and A-B-C patterns. We plan to incorporate the cubbies into this lesson by creating a class-wide \"Pattern Chain.\" Each day, a different student will be in charge of placing a colored card on each cubby in a specific sequence (e.g., Red, Blue, Red, Blue). The class will then discuss and identify the repeating rule. Your contribution to our classroom's physical structure has truly provided the foundation for us to build complex cognitive skills like patterning and logical thinking, which are essential for future success in math and literacy.","fullyFundedDate":1756473350403,"projectUrl":"project/better-cubbies-for-our-growing-pre-k-cla/9377081/","projectTitle":"Better Cubbies for Our Growing Pre-K Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Cynthia Rojas-Heller","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10042928"},{"teacherId":6598834,"projectId":9465845,"letterContent":"Thank you so very much for the new art supplies to start off the school year right. Also, my middle school photography students are greatly enjoying the new selphy printer to print their pictures for class critiques and assignments.\r\n\r\nI'm also planning to create some new lessons using the new watercolor paper and paints for the up coming Thanksgiving and winter holidays. The addition of these cameras to my classroom has allowed me to assign a camera to 8 students in my class. These students are thrilled not to have to share the cameras as well as being able to use the special features these cameras have, like better depth of field, macro setting and a stop motion setting (a recent discovery in these cameras.) \r\nI have seen some students go from passive learners to excited about learning photography because of all the new features these cameras have. For example, a student in my Photography 2 class was thrilled to use the camera's stop motion setting and so when he did his stop motion animation and used this setting his movie came out much sharper and steadier than the one he did last year on his phone in my Photography1class. It was nice to see how much he had grown from one year to the next and how proud he was of his new film.\r\nI love how most of these students have a camera assigned to them. It makes all the difference in the flow of my class and student learning.
