When the supplies were finally brought out and they were told what they were doing to be doing, the students were in shock because they never had seen their school work as something to collect and gather to look on past the moment it had been turned in or graded. \r\n\r\nWhen their work was distributed, it took a whole period for the students to analyze their work and determine which of their assignments was 'worthy' of being added to their personal collections. While most chose their more creatively created assignments, others reflected in their effort and work and would choose work that they know they had struggled in and had received a decent grade. One assignment they all had to submit was their poetry projects. Once they had been told the guidelines for how to bind their work, the students would then exchange their papers and read over the others' works (as if they had not heard it being recited a few months prior). They were giving each other feedback and speaking on their shared writing and what they could write about now. It was excitement about writing in a way that I had not seen much of this school year.\r\n\r\nThis project has allowed the students to see the culmination of their projects for the school year in a way that has made them feel accomplished. The fact that their input was so ingrained into this project, made them see their work as something of value, something that they could keep. Because it was also a project that we were completing at the end of the year, the students had even included a few blank pages at the back and used it as an autograph sheet. A student had said that their book included their work in the classroom and then the names of the friends they'd made the school year. Giving the book that personal touch also made the students very happy to have the big factors of their school year in one place.\r\n\r\nSeeing the success of this project made me also think on how this could be improved. I have already spoken with the Literacy teachers of the lower levels and we agreed to save some of the more creative heavy writing projects for them to add them at the end of their middle school years.\r\n\r\nThank you for allowing my eighth grade class one final collective look into all that they have been able to produce this year and to look on it with pride. I know that these are collection that they will keep and will be able to smile at when they could see their effort and hard work as something worthwhile enough that there was a teacher who thought it was good enough to go in a book.","fullyFundedDate":1757666619697,"projectUrl":"project/binding-their-words-building-their-conf/9693602/","projectTitle":"Binding Their Words, Building Their Confidence","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Perez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8558041_orig.jpg?crop=640,640,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1757364190647","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8558041"},{"teacherId":10222877,"projectId":9648965,"letterContent":"The introduction of a poster maker such as the HP DesignJet T320 would significantly enhance learning by transforming complex concepts into vivid, accessible visuals that support a wide range of learning styles. When students can see information displayed in clear, engaging formats, whether a reading strategy, classroom rules, or a vocabulary map, they connect more deeply with the material and retain it more effectively. This technology empowers teachers to create customized resources that strengthen differentiated instruction and make classrooms more inclusive for students who benefit from visual cues and step‑by‑step explanations.\r\n\r\nWhat excites our students most is the opportunity provide constant visual reinforcement of classroom strategies, expectations, and reminders of upcoming school activities for both students and families. These large, vibrant displays help students stay focused, organized, and aware of the supports available to them throughout the school day. Seeing their learning tools and community events highlighted so prominently not only boosts engagement but also strengthens the connection between home and school.\r\n\r\nThis tool has been especially impactful for students who think visually or who sometimes struggle with traditional text‑heavy assignments. It supports critical thinking, enhances visual communication, and aligns with grant priorities focused on measurable impact and innovation. By bringing this resource to our school, donors would help us cultivate a culture of creativity and excellence that benefits every learner in our community.","fullyFundedDate":1763692211212,"projectUrl":"project/empowering-students-learning-through-vi/9648965/","projectTitle":"Empowering Students' Learning Through Visual Innovation","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Perez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10222877_orig.jpg?crop=757,758,x0,y103&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1760542183006","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10222877"},{"teacherId":8558041,"projectId":9860945,"letterContent":"Thank you for your contributions to our classroom in its being prepared for this year's flu season. Upon receiving the items, I was able to immediately add them into our class's procedures in a way that allowed the students to be able to help themselves as needed to maintain a much cleaner and more productive environment.\r\n\r\nHaving tissues for example allowed me to better help those students with the sniffles and allergies who would always have to ask to leave the room to use the bathroom or visit the nurse for facial tissues. This allowed them to immediately handle their needs and with some hand sanitizer, they were able to once again focus on their work without the discomfort of a runny nose. Having the disinfecting spray also allowed me to be able to sanitize the common items more frequently, their desks, the keyboards, the highlighters and pens among other items that are used by four classes in one day. While I can't provide statistics as to how many students were or were not sick this year compared to the previous one, I did see a decrease in the length of that chain of students being sick one after the other.\r\n\r\nThe inclusion of more classroom supplies, specifically the multi-color pens and the individual headphones caused an immense excitement within my classroom. While some claimed the pens were a tad bit juvenile, they would regularly ask for them in our lessons when taking notes. They were eager to learn an appropriate strategy as to how they could be used and now want to apply it to assignments that don't call for it to be able to use the multiple color pens. The headphones were also a great aid in helping the students maintain an appropriate level of noise within the classroom. Some students commented on how it was easier to concentrate without having to block out everyone else's audios. My English Language Learners benefitted the most from it with how I saw that they were less shy about using the language learning audio lessons when they could do so privately and not call attention to themselves.\r\n\r\nKnowing that some basic supplies such as a pencil sharpener and highlighters made their day easier, allowed the students to advocate for themselves more frequently. Before some students would stay quiet and not complete work if they did not have their own necessary supplies. But with the donated items, I was able to have some out for them that they could borrow and easily complete their work with. There was no stigma around the items, you could just borrow what you needed for the period. There was one student in particular who borrows supplies everyday from friends and commented to me in private that it was nice to have supplies to use so she could stop asking to borrow her friends and potentially be made fun of due to her financial situation not allowing her to keep up with the expenses of replacing materials once they ran out or she lost them.\r\n\r\nAll in all, the students and myself are thankful that with these donations, we have been able to march forward with actual learning and not the small time consuming tasks of having to locate supplies when needed. It has allowed them to focus on what matters, their education, and allowed to momentarily ignore the discomfort and unhappiness of being without something they need.","fullyFundedDate":1762261700607,"projectUrl":"project/stay-healthy-stay-learning/9860945/","projectTitle":"Stay Healthy, Stay Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Perez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8558041_orig.jpg?crop=640,640,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1757364190647","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8558041"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_45878","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":545,"numTeachers":43,"percentFrplEligible":80,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":49,"percentWhite":1,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":48,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":0,"gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"12.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":48.3,"schoolId":45878,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Homestead Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Homestead Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/florida/miami-dade-county-public-schools/homestead-middle-school/45878"}
