Students are using the journals, mentor texts, and writing tools to dive into character development, experiment with poetry structures, and workshop short stories with one another. One of my favorite moments so far was watching a group huddle around a prompt card, debating whether their protagonist should take a risk or play it safe and realizing they were thinking like real writers, not just students completing an assignment.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, the room lit up in a way I'll never forget. Students flipped through the fresh notebooks, ran their fingers over the colorful prompt decks, and immediately started pitching story ideas to each other. A few even asked if they could stay after school to start writing. Their excitement wasn't just about having something new; it was about feeling seen, supported, and trusted as creators.\r\n\r\nNext, we're channeling all that energy into a culminating project: a class anthology of original writing. Students are drafting, revising, and preparing to peer‑edit each other's work with the help of the new resources. Over the coming weeks, they'll choose their strongest pieces, refine them with intention, and learn how to format and publish their writing. Thanks to your generosity, they're not just learning the mechanics of writing, they're discovering their voices and building the confidence to share them with the world.","fullyFundedDate":1773400471702,"projectUrl":"project/inkwell-society-tales-from-the-quill/10123764/","projectTitle":"Inkwell Society: Tales from the Quill","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Calejo Mora","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp1000990_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1497549504180","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/1000990"},{"teacherId":10058140,"projectId":9510429,"letterContent":"Dear Donors,\r\n\r\nThank you so much for your generous support of my classroom rug project. Because of you, our learning environment has transformed into a warm, welcoming space where children feel safe, focused, and truly at home. The three rugs you funded have made an incredible difference for my students.\r\n\r\nThese rugs allowed me to create a cozy corner that has quickly become a favorite spot for quiet reading, calming down, or simply taking a moment to reset. In our daily lessons, students from both of my classes—and even those who attend aftercare—benefit from the comfort and warmth the rugs bring to our room. Many children choose to work on the carpet rather than at their desks, and the rugs now serve as flexible seating options that help them stay engaged and comfortable.\r\n\r\nYour generosity turned our bare floors into soft, inviting spaces where imagination, friendships, and learning flourish. Thank you for believing in my students and helping us build a classroom environment where every child can thrive.","fullyFundedDate":1755183503762,"projectUrl":"project/room-to-grow-cozy-rugs-for-curious-kind/9510429/","projectTitle":"Room to Grow: Cozy Rugs for Curious Kindergarteners","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Fernanda Gonzalez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10058140_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1753786173800","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10058140"},{"teacherId":6595250,"projectId":9261036,"letterContent":"Thanks to the generous donations from our donors, our classroom was able to embark on a truly imaginative and interdisciplinary project: designing a Greek Mythological theme park using science boards. Each student selected a mythological figure or story and created an interactive exhibit that combined elements of history, literature, and engineering. From Poseidon's underwater roller coaster to Athena's wisdom maze, the boards showcased creative ride designs, park maps, and even mock advertisements. The project not only deepened their understanding of Greek mythology but also encouraged collaboration, critical thinking, and presentation skills.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the donated materials—bright, sturdy science boards and colorful markers—their excitement was palpable. Many had never worked with such high-quality supplies before, and the possibilities seemed endless. They immediately began sketching ideas, forming teams, and brainstorming how to bring ancient myths to life in a modern amusement park setting. The room buzzed with energy and laughter as they dove into their designs, and several students even stayed after school to add finishing touches. It was a moment of pure joy and creativity, made possible by the kindness of our donors.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, our next steps involve transforming these theme park boards into digital presentations. Students will use technology to create virtual tours of their parks, integrating multimedia elements like voiceovers, animations, and music. This will allow them to practice digital literacy and storytelling while preserving their hard work in a shareable format. We're also planning a showcase event where families and community members can \"visit\" the parks and learn about the myths behind each attraction. The journey continues, and we're so grateful to our donors for helping spark this wave of inspiration.","fullyFundedDate":1745421102701,"projectUrl":"project/the-inkwell-society/9261036/","projectTitle":"The Inkwell Society","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Calejo Mora","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6595250"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_74095","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":780,"numTeachers":48,"percentFrplEligible":23,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":24,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":72,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"16.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":91.0,"schoolId":74095,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about ADA Merritt K-8 Center on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"ADA Merritt K-8 Center","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/florida/miami-dade-county-public-schools/ada-merritt-k-8-center/74095"}
