Through these new texts, students are not only enjoying stories but also building essential early literacy skills. They are practicing retelling key events using beginning, middle, and end, identifying characters and settings, and using illustrations to better understand the text. Students are also expanding their vocabulary as they learn new words connected to traditions, cultures, and celebrations from different countries.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is very interactive and joyful. During read-aloud time, students sit together on the carpet and actively participate by asking questions, making predictions, and sharing their thinking. In small groups, I work closely with students on foundational skills like letter sounds, blending, and decoding simple words. The crafts tied to each country allow students to connect what they read to a hands-on activity, making the learning experience more meaningful and memorable.\r\n\r\nSeveral students have especially thrived with these new books. My English language learners are more engaged because the visuals and cultural connections support their understanding. One student who was once hesitant to participate is now eager to share what they've learned about different countries and their holiday traditions. Another student loves comparing traditions and confidently talks about similarities and differences between cultures.\r\n\r\nThese resources have created a classroom environment where reading is exciting, inclusive, and meaningful. The sturdy, well-sized sticks have allowed us to run full skill progressions—from basic stick handling and passing to controlled scrimmages—without students having to share or wait for equipment. One great classroom moment was seeing teams successfully complete multi-pass plays for the first time, something we couldn't do before because we lacked enough quality sticks.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the new sticks, they were excited and immediately noticed how solid and \"real\" they felt. Having enough matching equipment made the activity feel more official, which boosted participation and effort, especially from students who are usually more hesitant in PE.\r\n\r\nThanks to your support, you truly got a peek into our classroom. Our next steps include refining offensive and defensive strategies, practicing sportsmanship, and ending the unit with student-led games and mini-tournaments. These hockey sticks are helping students build teamwork, confidence, and a love for staying active.
