The students have been so excited to see the store come together, with each delivery they became more and more intrigued. As we would go get supplies out of the closet that has the store, the student's eyes would become as big as saucers. \r\n\r\nAs part of our grand opening, each student received their very own paycheck which they had to write on their check register and endorse the check before they could go cash it at the school bank. Due to the nature of our student's and their disabilities, we create simulated experiences to help them learn about what they will experience out in the community before they go experience it in person for the first time. The students were confused at first since this was all novel but we kept telling them that you need money to go shopping at the store. Each student also received $5 from the bank for opening their account. Then came the fun part!\r\n\r\nEach student was given a shopping basket and told to pick out whatever they wanted from the store. Their eyes were wide as they were making their selections browsing between the rows of candy, cookies, chips, and toys. Once they were satisfied with their selections they had to go check out. We scanned each item using a toy cash register before giving each student their total and then they had to pay. Many students went over their budget and had to put items back which helped teach them financial literacy skills. \r\n\r\nWith your help and Donor's Choose we were able to make this project a reality.
