My students are super special and they have very special learning needs. Our classroom is designed to meet the needs of all our students. Sometimes those needs involve being able to control their own emotions. One way we do this is by having an area to calm down. We want to make this area a positive place and not a place they avoid going to. In order to achieve that, I have already painted a soothing mural on the wall and softened the lighting. I will use the bean bag chairs so they have a comfortable place to sit when they need a moment to relax and ease their mind. The fidget items will be used to maintain a level of calmness, to ensure that my students can be active and present in the learning environment. Some kids need to move a lot and that is okay. I want that movement to be purposeful, non-disruptive, and helpful. I can achieve this with the items that I have requested.
