I took out the frisbees, footballs, hula hoops, and soccer balls, we inflated one of each and passed it around the class so the children could feel it and imagine how it would be to take one of these items home. \r\nI heard them talking to one another, \"I'm going to get the football.\" \"I want a hula hoop.\" And \"I'd rather have the soccer ball!\" I then displayed the equipment around the room throughout the first and second quarters. At the beginning of a new week students would check FOCUS (our grading program) to see if they qualified for the sports equipment drawing. If students didn't have any Missing assignments, they added their name to their bucket for the end of quarter drawing.\r\nThe day of the drawing is full of excitement, the less Missing assignments a student has the better his or her chance to win a piece of equipment increases. Classmates are excited for one another, cheering and clapping for the winners! It's been a great way to wrap up quarters 1 and 2 this year.\r\nI've witnessed more students working harder during class time, and even taking assignments home, just to be able to get their name in the drawing each week. Through this project I've been teaching children that there are no shortcuts to success, and hard work pays off. They have been seeing this firsthand, and they are noticing that gratification doesn't always come quickly. I hope to continue with this reward practice next year!","fullyFundedDate":1756614687239,"projectUrl":"project/sports-equipment-instead-of-candy/9661715/","projectTitle":"Sports Equipment Instead of Candy","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Griffin","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10230478"},{"teacherId":8552483,"projectId":9687622,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support of our Donors Choose project, \"Breaking Barriers with ELL Students.\" Because of you, our classroom is a more inclusive, supportive, and engaging learning environment for our English Language Learners.\r\nThe materials you helped provide made an immediate and meaningful difference.
