Oxford Picture Dictionaries are an amazing way for my students to connect their prior knowledge to the English language. A lot of the activities within these books allow my students to function appropriately in this country. It is important for them to be able to connect their native language to the new language they are now learning. These dictionaries allow them to do this. The importance of illustrations for ELL students cannot be stressed enough. Visual representations are extremely important while they are forming these new connections and digesting this new content. These dictionaries actually make it possible for them to see and experience their new content.
