The addition of a cozy rug, a beautiful bookshelf, and new decorations and organization tools transformed our classroom into a warm, welcoming space that feels safe and inviting for every child. Thanks to this project, our classroom is not just a place to learn—it has become a place where students feel at home.\r\n\r\nKindergarten is such an important year for children. For many of my students, this is their very first school experience. Because of that, creating an environment where they feel comfortable, secure, and eager to learn is just as important as the lessons I teach each day. The new rug has become a central gathering place for us. It's where we start our mornings together, share stories, learn new concepts, and celebrate one another's accomplishments. Having a soft, comfortable rug allows students to sit together in a community circle, giving them a sense of belonging. The rug also helps define our classroom space and creates a calm area where students can focus and engage.\r\n\r\nThe bookshelf has been another amazing addition. By organizing our books in a way that is accessible and inviting, students now take greater ownership of their reading choices. They love being able to see the covers displayed and find it easier to pick out books that spark their interest. Many of my kindergarteners are still beginning readers, so the ability to choose books independently builds confidence and fosters a love for reading. I have noticed that during independent reading times, more students are gravitating to the bookshelf and spending time with books. This simple piece of furniture has turned our classroom into a place where stories and imagination are at the center of learning.\r\n\r\nThe decorations and organization tools also made a huge impact. Bright, cheerful, and calming decorations create a positive atmosphere where students feel excited to come to school each day. The organization tools have helped us keep supplies neat and accessible, which is especially important in a kindergarten classroom where routines and independence are still developing. With everything in its place, students are learning how to take responsibility for materials and take pride in keeping our classroom tidy. This organization also allows me to spend more time teaching and less time searching for supplies, which benefits all of us.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, these changes have impacted how my students feel. Several of them have commented that our classroom feels \"like home\" or that it is \"so cozy.\" For children who may experience stress, challenges, or transitions outside of school, having a calm and comforting environment at school is incredibly meaningful. I have already noticed students choosing to spend quiet moments on the rug with a book, or gathering together with friends to read and talk in our new cozy spaces. The classroom environment now supports both learning and emotional well-being.\r\n\r\nThis project has truly made a difference in our daily lives. A calming, organized, and welcoming space allows my students to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. I am so grateful for the generosity of donors who made this transformation possible. The rug, bookshelf, decorations, and organizational tools may seem like small additions, but they have had a huge impact on my students' learning and sense of belonging. Thank you for helping me create a classroom where my kindergarteners feel safe, happy, and inspired to learn every single day.","fullyFundedDate":1755106981752,"projectUrl":"project/cozy-corners-for-growing-minds/9310179/","projectTitle":"Cozy Corners for Growing Minds","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Stutzman","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp5108398_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1516652356182","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/kayla-williams"},{"teacherId":5108398,"projectId":8333318,"letterContent":"My second-grade students were absolutely thrilled to receive our new collection of biography books through DonorsChoose. From the moment I introduced the books, there was a noticeable buzz of excitement and curiosity in the classroom. The students could not wait to flip through the pages, ask questions, and dive into the lives of people who made an impact on the world. It was clear right away that these books were going to be more than just reading material—they were going to inspire learning, creativity, and critical thinking.\r\n\r\nWe began by launching a biography research project where each student selected a person of interest from the collection. Having such a variety of accessible, age-appropriate biographies allowed students to choose figures who genuinely sparked their curiosity. Some gravitated toward well-known leaders and inventors, while others chose athletes, activists, or artists. Having the freedom to pick someone who resonated with them gave each child a sense of ownership over their learning, and they were eager to get started.\r\n\r\nAs they read their books, students learned how to take meaningful notes, pulling out key facts and details about their person's life, challenges, and accomplishments. For many of them, this was the first time engaging with nonfiction text in such a focused and purposeful way. The process helped them strengthen reading comprehension, practice identifying main ideas, and develop summarizing skills. It was inspiring to watch them not only absorb information but also make connections between their person's story and their own lives. \r\n\r\nThe project extended beyond reading and note-taking. Each student wrote a short research paper that highlighted the most important aspects of their person's life. Then, they created a project board and a digital slideshow to visually display what they had learned. The effort and creativity that went into these presentations were incredible. Students added timelines, drawings, photographs, and fun facts to their boards. Their slideshows included captions, images, and even animations, showcasing not only their research but also their growing technology skills.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting part came when students shared their projects with classmates. They stood proudly in front of the room, explaining who their person was, what they accomplished, and why they were important. The pride on their faces was unforgettable. \r\n\r\nI am deeply grateful for the support that made this possible. Donors not only provided books but also gave my students the chance to see themselves as readers, researchers, and presenters. They learned that their voices matter, their hard work pays off, and that they can achieve great things—just like the people they studied. Thank you for making such a lasting impact on my classroom and for helping my students experience the joy of learning in such a meaningful way.","fullyFundedDate":1724241037980,"projectUrl":"project/who-is-biography-books/8333318/","projectTitle":"Who Is__ Biography Books","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Stutzman","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp5108398_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1516652356182","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/kayla-williams"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_70331","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":502,"numTeachers":41,"percentFrplEligible":48,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":11,"percentWhite":62,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":15,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"12.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":57.9,"schoolId":70331,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Rideout Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Rideout Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/florida/clay-county-school-district/rideout-elementary-school/70331"}
