These small but powerful robots allowed the students to become designers, engineers, and programmers as they created their own mazes and coded the Ozobots to navigate through them.\r\n\r\nAs students designed their mazes, they had to think critically, plan a route, recognize patterns, and determine which codes will guide their robot to the finish line. But the learning doesn't stop there! Students had to test their designs, observe the robot's movements, identify errors, and make adjustments when things didn't go as planned. Through this process, they learned that problem-solving and engineering involved trial and error, persistence, and continuous improvement.\r\n\r\nThis activity directly supports Florida's 4th-grade science learning goals by allowing students to practice important scientific and engineering skills, including:\r\n\r\nPlanning and Investigating: Developing a maze, predicting outcomes, and testing their designs.\r\n\r\nCritical Thinking and Problem-Solving: Analyzing challenges and determining how to correct errors.\r\n\r\nRecognizing Patterns: Understanding how codes affect the robot's movements.\r\n\r\nEngineering Design: Evaluating results, redesigning pathways, and improving solutions.\r\n\r\nData Collection and Analysis: Observing, recording, and comparing the robot's performance.\r\n\r\nCommunication and Collaboration: Sharing ideas, explaining strategies, and working together to accomplish a goal.\r\n\r\nOzobots also introduced the students to foundational computer science concepts such as algorithms, sequencing, debugging, and computational thinking. These skills extended beyond coding and help students become more confident, independent thinkers who can approach challenging problems with creativity and perseverance.\r\n\r\nMy goal was to provide students with meaningful learning experiences that move beyond traditional paper-and-pencil activities. I wanted them to explore, experiment, create, and discover that learning can be exciting and interactive. Ozobots make it possible for students to see their ideas come to life while developing skills that will prepare them for future STEM opportunities.\r\n\r\nYour generosity would helped provide my students with the tools to become the innovators, problem-solvers, and creative thinkers of tomorrow.\r\n\r\nThank you for investing in my students, supporting STEM education, and helping make these learning experiences possible!","fullyFundedDate":1786108348111,"projectUrl":"project/powering-the-future-one-robot-at-a-time/10329863/","projectTitle":"Powering the Future, One Robot at a Time","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Suarez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp3656585_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1522235422067","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3656585"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_62335","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":435,"numTeachers":42,"percentFrplEligible":33,"percentAsian":5,"percentBlack":26,"percentWhite":16,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":48,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":3,"gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"10.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":95.5,"schoolId":62335,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Silver Palms Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Silver Palms Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/florida/broward-county-public-schools/silver-palms-elementary-school/62335"}
