This resource offers my students meaningful opportunities to develop fine motor skills, enhance hand-eye coordination, recognize colors, and build patterns. It also serves as a calming and structured activity that helps them focus, problem-solve, and express creativity while having fun.\r\n\r\nShare a specific classroom project or moment that stands out to you.\r\nOne memorable classroom moment was our \"Tower Challenge.\" Students were asked to build the tallest tower they could using the pegs, while practicing turn-taking and sharing materials. For many of my students with autism, waiting for a turn can be challenging, but the excitement of working together kept everyone engaged. Watching their faces light up with pride as they compared towers and celebrated each other's efforts was truly heartwarming.\r\n\r\nHow did your students react when they first saw the materials?\r\nWhen the set first arrived, my students were instantly captivated. Their eyes lit up as they explored the bright colors and began experimenting—some sorted the pegs by color, while others started stacking as high as they could. The hands-on, colorful nature of the activity immediately drew them in and encouraged joyful exploration.\r\n\r\nWhat are the next steps for your students on a current classroom lesson or project?\r\nOur next step is to integrate the peg set into both math and communication lessons. Students will practice counting, creating patterns, and following multi-step directions (for example, \"make a red-blue-red-blue pattern\"). We'll also use the activity to encourage expressive language and social interaction as students describe what they're building and collaborate with peers. These experiences will continue to foster the development of their academic, language, and social-emotional skills in meaningful ways.","fullyFundedDate":1496842992327,"projectUrl":"project/practicing-activities-searching-for-skil/2443708/","projectTitle":"Practicing Activities Searching for Skills","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Rivera-Sanchez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp3616054_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1486536257059","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/luz-rivera-sanchez"},{"teacherId":4975400,"projectId":9369579,"letterContent":"I along with my students can't thank you enough for your generocity in supporting our efforts to improve reflexes and reaction times for our students most in need. We will be using the equipment to work with ambulatory and non-ambulatory students to increase their ability to recognize and react to different stimuli in the physical education setting. This allows them to be better prepared for lessons that are sport or activity specific.\r\n\r\nI was able to implement the activities on a small scale this summer during summer instruction. I plan to now utilize the full program to enhance what our students can do when it comes to deliberate movement and reactions. The colored lights makes it a very easy stimulus to get the students to step, kick, hit, or touch depending on the activity.\r\n\r\nYour support will allow us to get to a place where students are even more mobile and active. Our school is a unique center that caters to the needs of individuals with profound special needs. \r\n\r\nMany of our students have difficulty transitioning from one place to another. This is especially true when it comes to arriving at school. For some of our students this often seems like a daunting task. This project has transformed the office entrance area into a warm, more user-friendly environment. Just having the couch there helps put our students at ease and helps them transition into the school in a warm, accepting manner.\r\n\r\nFrom day one upon the new couch arrival, our students took advantage of the new couch. They enjoyed sitting and relaxing before heading to their classrooms. We plan on using this strategy in other areas of the school to help reduce student anxiety and foster a more positive school environment.","fullyFundedDate":1726059426969,"projectUrl":"project/a-place-just-for-me/8745762/","projectTitle":"A Place Just for Me","teacherDisplayName":"Dr. Lazerson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp2108702_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1511841281241","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2108702"},{"teacherId":2108702,"projectId":6180996,"letterContent":"Thanks so much for supporting this awesome project. My students LOVED participating in this highly motivational production. \r\n\r\nThis project was super motivational for my students. Rather than their usual role of being passive observers, the expressive arts have enabled them to become active participants. They went from listening to music to playing in the band - many using adaptive instruments right from their wheelchairs. Other students used communication devices to say their lines or sing their parts in the musical performances.\r\n\r\nFrom the practices to the two grand shows, the students were excited to participate. Many of them seemed to come to life when dressing up in the various amazing costumes.\r\n\r\nWe look forward to future productions at the school and thank you again for your awesome support!","fullyFundedDate":1646104012194,"projectUrl":"project/blast-black-light-accentuates-sel/6180996/","projectTitle":"\"B.L.A.S.T.\" Black Light Accentuates Self-Esteem & Talents!","teacherDisplayName":"Dr. Lazerson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp2108702_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1511841281241","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2108702"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_96060","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":152,"numTeachers":24,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":42,"percentWhite":31,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":23,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Not specified","studentTeacherRatio":"6.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":22.4,"schoolId":96060,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about The Quest Center on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"The Quest Center","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/florida/broward-county-public-schools/quest-center/96060"}
