Your generous donation allowed us to add more playground equipment for the campers to use in our Gym class and at the breaktime games in between sessions.\r\n\r\nThe students love all the new jump ropes. We were able to purchase jump ropes in several different lengths. This allows the students, and adults, of all sizes to find a jump rope to use. The longer jump ropes have been used to jump rope in Double Dutch style and also with several jumpers at the same time!\r\n\r\nAnd the playground balls in all sorts of sizes were a hit! Four square is a very popular game at break time, and the rules vary from one Four Square game to another. This year we could challenge the older campers by giving them a smaller playground ball to use, while the younger campers had a larger ball to use. As soon as music starts playing, the girls are more engaged, more upbeat, and more connected as a team. It's created an environment that feels fun but still competitive and focused.\r\n\r\nWhen they first saw everything—the gloves, their own personal water thermoses, and backpacks—their reaction was pure excitement. They couldn't believe the gear was theirs. Having something personal, like their own thermos and backpack, gave them a sense of pride and ownership. (There's always someone). \r\n\r\nOur discussions center around moral choices and culture. The best moments are when students relate injustice they see in the book to modern day. I have a high performing class and they all want to pass their AP exam. However, if they come away having enjoyed a book - which is rare. Since our classes run for two hours, having a snack incentive keeps them focused and motivated. It has been amazing to see them dive deep into their chosen texts and become experts on their specific topic.\r\n\r\nThe project culminates with students delivering a presentation on their book and writing a detailed paper about the aspect of the novel they were responsible for.
