They have become fascinated with What's Inside a Birds Nest, in particular. Currently, in our playground and recess area, the students have come upon a nest with a baby chick. The bird is a Killdeer (Charadrius Vociferus). \r\n\r\nThey have observed the baby chick and the mom over the past week. Cones and yellow tape have been placed in that general area in order to protect the chick and mother. Students have used the book to identify this particular bird. It is native to our area in Miramar. \r\n\r\nThe students have made further observations of ospreys and crows in the area. \r\nNonetheless, it's nest is truly the star and focal point of their observations. The ability observe the nest has truly inspired my students to collect daily data as to the time they observe the mother come with food for the chick. My students have mentioned careers in the field of ornithologists. In addition to paleontologists, to marine biologist from the direct inspiration from this book collection.
