Many of my students struggle to remain seated for extended periods, which can interfere with their focus, engagement, and overall learning. By incorporating stools that allow for subtle movement, I have observed a noticeable improvement in their ability to stay on task.\r\n\r\nThese stools provide students with an appropriate outlet for physical energy, reducing disruptive behaviors such as fidgeting, rocking chairs, or leaving their seats. Instead of movement being a distraction, it becomes a tool that supports concentration. As a result, students who previously had difficulty maintaining attention are now more engaged during instruction and independent work.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, the use of movement-friendly seating has contributed to a more inclusive classroom environment. Students with different learning and sensory needs feel more comfortable and supported, which positively impacts their confidence and participation. This shift not only benefits those who require movement but also enhances the overall classroom atmosphere by minimizing interruptions and promoting a calmer learning space.\r\n\r\nOverall, flexible seating stools have improved student focus, reduced behavioral disruptions, and supported diverse learning needs. Their presence in the classroom has allowed more students to access instruction effectively, leading to stronger academic engagement and a more productive learning environment.\r\n\r\nThe introduction of light covers in my classroom has had a significant positive impact on both the learning environment and student well-being. Harsh fluorescent lighting can often be overwhelming for students, particularly those with sensory sensitivities, leading to discomfort, distraction, and decreased focus. By softening the lighting, the covers create a calmer and more welcoming atmosphere.\r\n\r\nSince implementing light covers, I have observed a noticeable reduction in student anxiety and restlessness. Students appear more relaxed and are better able to concentrate on their work for longer periods of time. This is especially beneficial for students who are easily overstimulated, as the adjusted lighting helps minimize sensory overload and supports emotional regulation.\r\n\r\nIn addition, the improved classroom environment has contributed to fewer behavioral disruptions. With a more soothing and visually comfortable space, students are less likely to become agitated or distracted, allowing for smoother transitions and more effective instruction. The overall tone of the classroom has shifted to one that promotes focus, engagement, and a sense of calm.\r\n\r\nOverall, light covers have enhanced the classroom by supporting students' sensory needs, improving attention and behavior, and creating a more inclusive and productive learning environment where all students can succeed.","fullyFundedDate":1767898733391,"projectUrl":"project/more-than-just-a-chair/9933406/","projectTitle":"More Than Just a Chair!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Williams","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4546005_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1500061617290","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4546005"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_44768","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":569,"numTeachers":42,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":18,"percentWhite":51,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":19,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"13.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":48.0,"schoolId":44768,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Northside Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Northside Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/florida/bay-county-school-district/northside-elementary-school/44768"}
