When the new materials arrived—like the Calm Strips, kinetic sand, expression puzzle cubes, Chutes and Ladders game, and colorful dry-erase dots—my students could hardly contain their excitement. Their eyes grew wide, and they immediately wanted to explore everything.\r\nThe Calm Strips have become a favorite calming tool for students who need a moment to reset or focus. The kinetic sand has inspired lots of creative play and is a wonderful sensory activity that helps students relax and collaborate. The wooden face-changing puzzle cubes have sparked laughter and thoughtful conversations as students match and guess different emotions, building both problem-solving and social-emotional skills. Chutes and Ladders has brought the class together during group game time, helping everyone practice turn-taking and friendly competition. The dry-erase dots have made table activities more interactive, letting students draw, write, and share ideas right at their seats.\r\nOne of my favorite moments was when a student who is usually quiet took the lead in showing classmates how to use the Calm Strips during our morning meeting. It was a proud moment for both of us!\r\nNext, we'll use the kinetic sand for hands-on math and science lessons—measuring, molding shapes, and even exploring color mixing. The expression cubes will continue to support our social-emotional learning, as we practice identifying and talking about feelings. My students absolutely love both the calming koalas and the weighted blanket butterfly! \r\n\r\nWe can easily give them either item when they are overstimulated and they use them to help calm themselves. The koala helps them regulate their breathing, and has a few different settings that use different breathing techniques, so they get to pick which one they need most at that particular moment. The weighted butterfly offers them comfort and gives them a sense of being held, which autistic kids need even though they often struggle with human contact.\r\n\r\nAgain, thank you so much for helping our class!
