Whether it's a spilled lunch, a bathroom accident, muddy clothes from recess, or simply needing a personal care item, I never want a student to feel embarrassed or ashamed about asking for help. Our Care Closet is located right in the clinic restroom and is open and accessible to everyone. There is no need to ask or explain—students can simply take what they need.\r\n\r\nThis project is about so much more than clothes and hygiene supplies. It's about protecting a child's dignity and helping them feel safe, comfortable, and cared for at school. Being able to quietly change into clean clothes or grab something they need can turn an embarrassing moment into a small bump in their day. They can take care of themselves, regain their confidence, and head back to class ready to learn.\r\n\r\nI want my clinic to always be a place where my kiddos know they are loved, respected, and taken care of. Because of the generosity of our Donors Choose supporters, we were able to add 20 new nonfiction books to our collection, including biographies of inventors, explorers, scientists, and changemakers, along with books about coding, robotics, and artificial intelligence.\r\n\r\n\r\nThe new narrative biographies have been especially meaningful. Students get to read about real people who had big ideas, faced challenges, made mistakes, and kept going. They see that the people who changed the world didn't necessarily start out knowing exactly what they were doing. That is an important message for elementary students to hear.\r\n\r\nThe updated technology books have also opened the door to new conversations in our library. Coding, robotics, and artificial intelligence are topics our students are hearing about in everyday life, but many of our older nonfiction books couldn't keep up with the changes in technology. Having current, age-appropriate resources allows students to explore these subjects in a way that is both fun and meaningful.\r\n\r\n\r\nThank you for helping make those questions possible. With the Teachers Pay Teachers gift card, I've been able to access high-quality, developmentally appropriate resources designed specifically for early childhood and special education. These activities allow me to tailor instruction to each student's individual needs, whether we are working on communication, fine motor skills, early academics, or social-emotional learning. Because I don't have a set curriculum, these resources are invaluable in helping me create engaging lessons that meet my students exactly where they are. The past two months are the first months in years that I haven't had to use my personal money to purchase lessons and materials. \r\n\r\nI strongly dislike giving students worksheets, so I like to create interactive re-usable activities. Because of this, I go through A LOT of laminating sheets and velcro! Over the summer, I purchased a printer to keep at home for when I need to work in the evenings. I recently printed out a test sheet on my personal printer and discovered that since June, I have printed more than 3,000 pages! I have a printer at school as well, so I can only imagine that the amount of cardstock, laminating sheets, and velcro is astronomical! By laminating activities and adding Velcro, I can create hands-on, interactive materials that are durable and reusable. This allows students to manipulate pieces, make choices, and practice skills independently - something that is incredibly important for learners with disabilities. My students are especially excited to use these materials because they feel more like games than work, which increases motivation and focus.\r\n\r\nSeveral of my students who previously struggled to stay engaged have shown increased participation and confidence using these interactive tools. Being able to match, sort, and complete tasks with Velcro-backed pieces gives them a sense of success and independence. These resources have helped create a more organized, engaging, and supportive learning environment, and I am truly grateful to our donors for making this possible for my students.","fullyFundedDate":1764602003578,"projectUrl":"project/made-with-love-and-a-little-lamination/9720268/","projectTitle":"Made with Love and a Little Lamination","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Hughes","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1961949_orig.jpg?crop=2084,2084,x231,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1747145260819","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mariahhughes"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_53005","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":529,"numTeachers":52,"percentFrplEligible":34,"percentAsian":5,"percentBlack":18,"percentWhite":49,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":13,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":12,"gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"10.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":79.4,"schoolId":53005,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about William S Talbot Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"William S Talbot Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/florida/alachua-county-school-district/william-s-talbot-elementary-school/53005"}
