Many of them immediately gravitated toward the sensory tools, whispering \"Can I try this one?\" and sharing with each other which fidgets helped them feel calm, focused, or ready to learn. The posters have already transformed our SEL office into a welcoming and peaceful space, students often pause to read the affirmations and calming strategies before beginning their check-ins. These visual supports have become part of our daily routines and help students regulate their bodies and emotions in ways that feel natural and empowering.\r\n\r\nOne of the most joyful moments happened in Pre-K, where students participated in a Friendship Mix activity from our new SEL Toolbox book. They practiced kindness, teamwork, and communication while creating their colorful \"friendship snack,\" each ingredient representing an important social skill. Watching them proudly share what each part of the mix stood for, helping hands, listening ears, kind words, was a beautiful reminder of how powerful early SEL instruction can be. These activities have allowed even our youngest learners to build strong social foundations and engage with each other in meaningful ways.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, our students now have tools that help them regulate their emotions, engage more confidently in learning, and build skills that support healthy relationships. Our next steps include incorporating more SEL book discussions during morning meetings, expanding our rotating \"Calming Corner\" materials for classrooms, and continuing to use the fidgets during small-group counseling sessions. Your contribution is creating lasting, daily impact in our school community, and we are incredibly grateful.","fullyFundedDate":1758202861158,"projectUrl":"project/the-feelings-lab/9701266/","projectTitle":"The Feelings Lab","teacherDisplayName":"Coach Tee","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10212374_orig.png?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1757520444965","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10212374"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_24187","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":326,"numTeachers":29,"percentFrplEligible":37,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":20,"percentWhite":7,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":68,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":0,"gradesServed":"Pre-K - 4","studentTeacherRatio":"11.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":35.8,"schoolId":24187,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Capital City Public Charter School - Elementary on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Capital City Public Charter School - Elementary","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/district-of-columbia/district-of-columbia-public-charter-school-board/capital-city-public-charter-school/24187"}
