They are annotating on sticky notes, and come to class every day excited to share their thoughts. While not a particularly happy book, the students are passionate about this topic and come alive during our seminars and in their writing tasks. They see themselves reflected in Coates' words, and his thoughtful meditation on race in America is more relevant today than ever. \r\n\r\nIn our AP Language and Composition classroom, we read texts that explore social, political and global issues, and this book encompasses all of those things and more. Through their reading students are learning how to analyze rhetorical choices, and to articulate how those choices impact the audience and connect to the author's purpose. \r\n\r\nThank you for helping our students become better readers, thinkers, writers and speakers.
