The technology has opened up a world of opportunities for them to explore digital books, interactive reading apps, and online literacy tools that make learning more dynamic and accessible. Students who once struggled to stay interested in reading are now eager to participate, and they've become more confident in their abilities to comprehend and analyze text. The tablet has made reading not just an assignment, but an exciting, hands-on experience.\r\n\r\nThe smart pencil, in particular, has been a game changer for developing writing and annotation skills. Students can highlight, underline, and jot down notes directly on digital texts, allowing them to interact more deeply with what they're reading. This tactile, immediate connection helps reinforce vocabulary, comprehension, and critical thinking. It also makes feedback more efficient and engaging—I can easily review and respond to their work digitally, creating a more personalized learning experience for every student.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, being able to cast from the iPad to the smart board has enhanced whole-class instruction in powerful ways. I can demonstrate how to annotate a text in real time, model close reading strategies, and highlight key details while students follow along on their own screens or in their books. This visual and interactive approach keeps everyone engaged and ensures that all students understand how to apply the skills we're learning. The combination of these tools has truly elevated literacy instruction in my classroom, and I'm deeply grateful for the positive impact it continues to have on my students' growth.","fullyFundedDate":1760735035547,"projectUrl":"project/7th-grade-literacy/9832902/","projectTitle":"7th Grade Literacy","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Younce","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10313763"},{"teacherId":7482528,"projectId":9832643,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generous support, reading in our 7th-grade English classroom has been completely transformed! The new books you helped provide have opened doors to conversations, connections, and skills that reach far beyond the page.\r\n\r\nWith these diverse novels, students are exploring themes of identity, courage, empathy, and belonging. We've been practicing essential reading skills—such as analyzing character motivation, identifying the author's purpose, and making text-to-self and text-to-world connections—but now, those lessons feel real. When students see themselves reflected in a story or step into someone else's shoes, their understanding deepens naturally.\r\n\r\nReading time has also become a calm and inviting part of our day. The cozy seating gives students the freedom to settle in with a good book, and it's amazing how much focus and joy that simple change brings. The sticker rewards have become small but powerful motivators—students proudly decorate their Chromebooks with each milestone they reach.\r\n\r\nUpon unpacking the new books, a 7th-grader said, \"I'm so glad you got that book. I've been wanting to read it for so long!\" One student who previously declared he \"didn't like reading\" books can now hardly wait to read the next chapter of a graphic novel. Another told me she finally found a character who \"feels like me.\" Those moments are exactly why this project matters.\r\n\r\nBecause of you, reading in our classroom isn't just an assignment—it's an experience. Thank you for helping my students discover the power and pleasure of great books.","fullyFundedDate":1760729031731,"projectUrl":"project/books-comfort-and-connection/9832643/","projectTitle":"Books, Comfort, and Connection","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Schulte","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7482528_orig.png?crop=824,824,x0,y120&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1598827991908","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7482528"},{"teacherId":4444049,"projectId":9828486,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support through DonorsChoose. Because of your kindness, our classroom library is now filled with engaging and thought-provoking books that are already making a difference. These resources are helping bring history and psychology to life for my students through stories and voices that make complex ideas more relatable and accessible.\r\n\r\nIn my U.S. History and Psychology classes, students are using these books to deepen their understanding of key themes and human experiences. Whether it's analyzing historical narratives or exploring the psychology behind behavior and decision-making, these books are helping students build both content knowledge and essential literacy skills. In addition, the books are a big hit during our phone-free advisory period, giving students a much-needed chance to unplug and discover the joy of reading for pleasure. I also got reading lights for each of my tables, which helps create a welcoming environment and set the \"mood\" for digging into a good book (see photos).\r\n\r\nYour donation is helping us create a stronger reading culture, and for that, I'm truly grateful.","fullyFundedDate":1760637710619,"projectUrl":"project/literacy-tools/9828486/","projectTitle":"Literacy Tools","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Sullivan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4444049"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_59862","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":948,"numTeachers":50,"percentFrplEligible":11,"percentAsian":14,"percentBlack":19,"percentWhite":47,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":13,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"19.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":17.2,"schoolId":59862,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Cab Calloway School of Arts on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Cab Calloway School of Arts","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/delaware/red-clay-consolidated-school-district/cab-calloway-school-of-arts/59862"}
