The idea behind this project was for the students to have an opportunity to read primary-school level Spanish books to practice and improve their reading, speaking, and comprehension skills in Spanish. \r\nThe way I implemented this project was that once a week at the beginning of class, students would select a primary-school level Spanish book and read it quietly on their own for 10-minutes. After the 10-minutes, the students would document their progress in a reading log and return the books back to the mobile shelves. The following week, the students may continue to read the same book again or select a different book to read for the 10-minutes. \r\nA great majority of the students are enjoying the different kinds of books that they're reading during this activity. Some of the students are mentioning how they enjoy some of the books they read when they were in elementary school but in Spanish now. Other students are mentioning how they are able apply what they have learned in class during this activity to comprehend what they are reading.","fullyFundedDate":1760656796923,"projectUrl":"project/improving-spanish-literacy/9828196/","projectTitle":"Improving Spanish Literacy","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Henriquez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10311836"},{"teacherId":9589138,"projectId":9833105,"letterContent":"The students have been incredibly excited about the new books, and the impact has been immediate. They've been using them during free time, and many were especially thrilled by the throwback elementary favorites like I Spy. Those books sparked a lot of joy and nostalgia, and students naturally gravitated toward sharing them with friends. The bookmarks have also been a big hit, every student loves having their own, and they're being used daily.\r\n\r\nBeyond reading for fun, the books have connected directly to our learning. As students study photography, the I Spy books have inspired them to plan and prepare for their own photo shoots. They are excited to create their own I Spy-style books, thinking carefully about composition, detail, and visual storytelling. It's been exciting to see how a familiar book format can motivate students to apply new skills in a creative way.\r\n\r\nOther students have enjoyed checking out and rereading middle school favorites, and for a few, this even encouraged them to try something new outside their usual choices. Overall, these books have created excitement around reading, supported classroom learning, and given students a positive, engaging way to spend their time. Thank you for making this experience possible for our students.","fullyFundedDate":1760752057971,"projectUrl":"project/building-a-love-for-reading/9833105/","projectTitle":"Building a Love for Reading","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Baumgartner","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9589138"},{"teacherId":10033255,"projectId":9816140,"letterContent":"Thank you for your support of the French program at Lake Forest High School. Free Voluntary Reading is used to encourage students to read on their own and provide students with a low-pressure environment to learn vocabulary, grammar, and (when possible) culture in context. The students are excited to dig into the materials and enrich their learning of French. The plan is for the students to read at least once a week in French. These longer texts will help supplement their reading of shorter (generally academically-focused) texts with texts that are more focused on their interests. Students in the Spanish classrooms have been engaged in reading for several months, so the French students are excited to begin.","fullyFundedDate":1760302212799,"projectUrl":"project/french-books-for-fvr/9816140/","projectTitle":"French books for FVR","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Black","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10033255"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_44485","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":930,"numTeachers":63,"percentFrplEligible":61,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":23,"percentWhite":58,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":7,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"14.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":83.3,"schoolId":44485,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Lake Forest High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Lake Forest High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/delaware/lake-forest-school-district/lake-forest-high-school/44485"}
