The sensory items you helped provide have truly made a meaningful difference for my students. Students who once struggled to stay focused are now eager to participate, simply because they have tools that meet their unique learning needs.\r\n\r\nFor many of my students, learning is most effective when they can touch, move, and interact with materials. The sensory items allow them to better process information by connecting abstract concepts to physical experiences. I have always loved to read and I really work to foster a love of reading in all my students. Part of loving to read is having a multitude of reading materials available so each student has access to books that meet their interests. \r\nThe books that we received from this project will be used during our reading small groups times for the fluency and vocabulary groups. These texts provide background knowledge, whether it be information in a non-fictional text or story elements in a fictional text. Students can apply this background knowledge to countless other texts they will encounter this year and beyond. \r\nWe begin our day with our whole group reading lesson. Students work on multi-syllabic words and other decoding skills, grammar, sentence writing, and comprehension. Later in the day, students have their reading knowledge lesson. During this time, students learn all kinds of information about history, science, and even story elements in fictional stories. The science of reading states that students are more successful readers when they possess more background knowledge so this part of our day is both exciting and important. Our last reading block is our small group time. This is when students have the opportunity to work on specific skills with a teacher for 15 minutes and also spend 15 minutes with free time to read as desired which is predominantly when they will have the opportunity to enjoy their new books. I'm so excited for the students to have all these choices with their reading time!","fullyFundedDate":1770067536603,"projectUrl":"project/building-literacy/9849242/","projectTitle":"Building Literacy","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Stant","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10324859"},{"teacherId":4502750,"projectId":9822755,"letterContent":"Thank you for the generous donation of books to our classroom library. These are lifelong skills that help children succeed not only in school, but in all areas of their lives.\r\n\r\nReading in our counseling classroom is highly interactive. Students listen to stories, participate in discussions, act out scenarios, practice coping strategies, and connect the characters' experiences to their own lives. The additional tools you provided, such as the Feelings Wheel, Emotion Slider, weighted Hug Balls, and sensory supports, help students engage with the lessons in hands-on and memorable ways.\r\n\r\nMany students are especially excited about the new A Little SPOT books and resources. The colorful characters make complex emotions easy for young children to understand, and students often recognize themselves in the stories.
