What used to feel rushed or limited now feels intentional and professional. I've already seen a difference in how students approach their projects—they're more confident, more engaged, and more willing to experiment with new techniques.\r\n\r\nOne of the most exciting moments has been watching students collaborate and take ownership of their work. They're not just completing assignments anymore—they're creating with purpose, thinking like photographers, and taking pride in the final product. For many of them, this is their first time using equipment that mirrors what professionals use, and it's opening their eyes to what's possible beyond high school.\r\n\r\nYour support didn't just provide materials—it created an environment where students feel inspired, capable, and excited to learn. They are now exploring advanced techniques like long exposures, light trails, and action shots—skills that deepen their understanding of photography as both an art and a science. Working in small groups, students collaborate to plan and execute their ideas, strengthening teamwork and critical thinking while supporting one another's creativity.\r\n\r\nIn a classroom where many students come from low-income households, access to reliable equipment makes a lasting difference. Students helped select the books that we ordered. The books helped fill gaps in existing series, bolster aging popular categories (sports, for example), and expand our manga selection. Boxes of books began arriving, and students eagerly opened them and sorted them into piles. As quickly as I could enter them into the system, library aides were printing stickers and preparing the books for checkout. Students have been happily checking out new books and asking for more.\r\n\r\nCollections and sections that you contributed to: classics and retellings, sports, manga, general fiction, and graphic novels. We have been blessed as a school community by your generosity. The photos are not very exciting, but let me explain. The cart is a sample of what your donation purchased for us. Both sides of that cart were full of new books. The messy shelves are what it looks like after three 9th-grade classes spend the day talking about reading and book checkouts. Manga is incredibly popular with my students. They can read them incredibly fast, so the library is the perfect place to pick them up. They share recommendations, and suddenly, more students are reading. \r\n\r\nThank you for enabling high schoolers to travel the world and fictional worlds without leaving their school.","fullyFundedDate":1761409835086,"projectUrl":"project/reading-takes-you-to-new-places-update/9851842/","projectTitle":"Reading Takes You to New Places! Instead of only talking about concepts like shutter speed, aperture, ISO, and composition, students are now applying them hands-on, experimenting with real cameras and learning how images are intentionally created, not just captured. This has helped them become more thoughtful creators and more critical consumers of digital media.\r\n\r\nWhat excites students most about using the T7 cameras is the level of control and professionalism they offer. Students love being able to manually adjust settings, see immediate results, and refine their work through trial and error. I have seen particular growth from students who struggle in traditional academic settings but thrive in hands-on, creative environments, these cameras have given them a way to shine.\r\n\r\nBecause of your support, my students are developing real-world skills in photography, digital literacy, and visual communication that extend far beyond the classroom.
