As the packages rolled in, the excitement on my students' faces made me so excited to be a recipient of your generous donation! \r\n\r\nWe have completed a huge project creating three infographics highlighting the problems of our oceans, why it's relevant to our community, and how we can help stop the issue! First, we started with our vocabulary. This unit contains high level vocabulary words, such as sustainable, erosion, conservation, etc. Our index cards allowed us to create their own study methods for vocabulary. Our average on the vocabulary test was a 95%! Next, we needed to find our evidence. We were able to print out articles, highlight important details, and use our sticky notes to work to paraphrase highlighted evidence for our infographics. During this process, we encouraged students to find the meaning of difficult words using our new dictionaries, and synonyms using our new thesauruses. We focused on three problems: overfishing, plastic pollution, and sea level rise, which can be complicated topics for 6th graders to digest. In order to work together on this project, we used the dry erase markers for students to share their ideas on our white boards, fostering collaboration among our students. \r\n\r\nStudents had the option to complete their infographics on paper or canva, and with the new supplies, most students opted to create their infographics rather than use their iPad. Students used the markers to draw and create for five days! As they finished up, they were able to read a choice book, mostly reaching for our new Harry Potter or Divergent series, while using our flexible seating. \r\n\r\nThese are a few of many ways we have utilized these materials in my classroom, and we are thankful for your generosity!","fullyFundedDate":1760830678378,"projectUrl":"project/cobra-readers-strike-back-rekindling-a/9838940/","projectTitle":"Cobra Readers Strike Back: Rekindling a Passion for Books!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Carreras","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10315613_orig.png?crop=1290,1290,x0,y722&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1760644059539","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10315613"},{"teacherId":2356199,"projectId":9823349,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for making my \"Game On for Literacy\" project a dream come true! Since this project was funded, my students have been actively using the new word games, storytelling tools, and books during library time and literacy-focused activities. Students love to play the word games like Boggle, Scrabble, and Bananagrams to build vocabulary and spelling skills, then use story cubes, Storymatic cards, and comic templates to turn those words into original stories. One of my favorite moments so far has been watching reluctant writers excitedly collaborate, laugh, and negotiate word choices as they build stories together.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials arrived, students were eager to explore the games, read the books, and ask when they could start using everything. Several students recognized familiar series like Percy Jackson, Wings of Fire, and The Baby-Sitters Club and were thrilled to learn they could earn books to take home. The excitement was genuine, and many students who don't usually gravitate toward reading were suddenly asking for recommendations and trying new books.\r\n\r\nStudents will continue using these resources as part of ongoing literacy lessons that focus on vocabulary development, storytelling, and reading for enjoyment. These materials have helped transform literacy into something joyful, social, and motivating for my students. All of the Reading Comprehension cards and inferencing cards have helped engage my students in learning more as these new resources provided new stories to gain their attention. The Picture My Picture Preposition cards have helped tremendously with the understanding of preposition words and when to use them with the excellent support. What my students have loved most are playing Kibbit and Rapid Rumble as these seem more like fun games to them and they do not realize that they are learning describing words, vocabulary, fluency skills, articulation sounds, and so much more! When I told my students that there were generous people out there that donated all of these new resources to our speech room they were all in awe! My students have been extremely grateful to all these new additions to the classroom. Any time we bring out Guess in 10, UNO, Spot It, and our conversational cubes they remember there were amazing people out there who donated this to them and wanted to help them grow more as students. Not only has this donation helped engage my students more in their speech session by providing new materials to use, it has also helped my students gain gratitude and respect for others out there. The speech classroom at Cantwell Bridge Middle School thanks you all from the bottom of our hearts and will always remember your kindness and generosity!","fullyFundedDate":1760964845020,"projectUrl":"project/vocabulary-and-literacy-in-speech-therap/9847802/","projectTitle":"Vocabulary and Literacy in Speech Therapy","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Ashley","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10323966"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_127847","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":833,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":9,"percentAsian":4,"percentBlack":32,"percentWhite":48,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":8,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":50.0,"schoolId":127847,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Cantwell's Bridge Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Cantwell's Bridge Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/delaware/appoquinimink-school-district/cantwells-bridge-middle/127847"}
