Although I am still working through the year-long certification process, I am already noticing a fundamental transformation in my practice as a Reading Specialist. By mastering EBLI's speech-to-print methodology, I have gained the precise instructional tools needed to help my 6th–8th grade students map spoken sounds directly to written text. My middle schoolers are already decoding and encoding high-school-level vocabulary words. This accelerated approach allows me to maximize every instructional minute and deliver rapid, meaningful growth. \r\n\r\nThe impact on my students has been immediate and moving. One of my students, who spent years avoiding reading, is already on her twelfth book this school year alone. Her confidence is exploding, and she truly sees herself as a reader now. I am also blown away by another student who, after years of struggling with reading, writing, and spelling, had begun to accept that reading would always be a battle. This year, he is reading grade-level words per minute with almost zero errors and routinely decodes complex, multi-syllabic words in our small-group sessions. His growth has even crossed over into his other classes as well. His ELA teacher shared that he is now leading his group when reading The Outsiders. Just the other day, our administration came to our room to congratulate these students on their incredible progress. Moments like these happen daily now; my students are rebuilding their confidence, tackling complex texts, and realizing what they are truly capable of. \r\n\r\nLooking ahead, I am eager to expand my practice by integrating these speech-to-print strategies into content-area reading so my students can confidently access complex texts in science, social studies, and beyond. Your support didn't just fund a training program—it gave my students the essential literacy tools they deserve and changed the trajectory of their educational journeys.","fullyFundedDate":1782820341409,"projectUrl":"project/literacy-and-justice-for-all-evidence-/10305889/","projectTitle":"Literacy and Justice for All: Evidence-Based Literacy Instruction","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Gaignard","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10515241_orig.jpg?crop=2316,2316,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1780080759653","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10515241"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_43800","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":844,"numTeachers":79,"percentFrplEligible":32,"percentAsian":11,"percentBlack":6,"percentWhite":51,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":23,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":5,"gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"10.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":45.5,"schoolId":43800,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Sedgwick Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Sedgwick Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/connecticut/west-hartford-public-school-district/sedgwick-middle-school/43800"}
