We now have a hand shovels and a hand rake for the students to use. The seeding square will allow us to do perfect spacing for square foot gardening. Square foot gardening is a method of gardening allowing you to grow the maximum number of plants possible per square foot and eliminate space for weeds to grow. Since different plants are different sizes, the amount of seeds per square foot will vary. This gives excellent opportunities to exercise our math strategies with real life situations. The twine will be used to help trellis plants. Growing vertically allows more ground space to grow, increases air flow, and reduces disease. I hope to have the students grow more vining vegetables in the spring, such as pole beans and cherry tomatoes. And all of these supplies can now be stored in our new outdoor storage container.
