Before this project, many of my students experienced rhythm mostly through hand clapping or individually using classroom percussion. Now, with our classroom cajóns, all of our students have the opportunity to feel the beat together in a powerful, hands-on way.\r\n\r\nFrom the very first day I introduced them, the reaction was unforgettable. When students walked in and saw the colorful octagon of cajóns set up and waiting, there were a lot of gasps. Several students immediately asked, \"Are those for us?\" and one student whispered, \"This looks like so much fun!\" Their excitement turned into intense focus the moment we began playing. Even some of my more reserved students, who are often hesitant to participate vocally, lit up when given the chance to create strong bass and snare tones with their hands.\r\n\r\nThe cajóns are greatly helping to strengthen our steady beat and ensemble skills. We begin each class with a rhythmic warm-up circle, where students keep the beat together. Eventually, we will try to layer different patterns together. They're learning to listen, adjust their tempo, and support one another—skills that go far beyond the music room.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, my students aren't just learning about rhythm—they are experiencing it in a way that builds confidence, teamwork, and joy. The cajóns have given them a voice, and they are using it boldly. Thank you for making this transformation possible.","fullyFundedDate":1765832554028,"projectUrl":"project/cajns-for-the-classroom-bringing-rhyth/9825864/","projectTitle":"Cajóns for the Classroom: Bringing Rhythm to Little Musicians!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Kansler","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7567441_orig.jpg?crop=838,838,x115,y192&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1760385082046","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-kansler"},{"teacherId":7567441,"projectId":9731134,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support! Our music classroom has been transformed with a set of 3 new high quality drums, in addition to some smaller drums and percussion instruments. These instruments have increased student engagement & participation in music class. The addition of these age-appropriate drums has greatly increased student excitement and involvement, as well. The students are also more focused during music time. Students who were previously hesitant to participate in other kinds of music activities now raise their hands to play. These instruments are also building stronger rhythm & coordination skills. The drumming activities also help the students develop essential musical skills along with motor coordination and timing. The students are better able to keep steady beat, which is a very important foundational music skill. The call-and-response rhythm activities that we do in music class also help to build listening and imitation skills with our younger students.\r\n\r\nAs we progress through the year, the next steps will focus on students using more creativity with the drums. They will explore sound in more imaginative ways: creating their own beats and rhythms, improvising, inventing stories or movement games based on sound and composing some rhythmic patterns individually and together. \r\n\r\nThese instruments have made such a meaningful difference in the students' learning, engagement, and joy in music class. Thank you again for supporting our youngest drummers with some new drums and percussion instruments!","fullyFundedDate":1760656412866,"projectUrl":"project/help-little-hands-make-big-rhythms/9731134/","projectTitle":"Help Little Hands Make Big Rhythms","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Kansler","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7567441_orig.jpg?crop=838,838,x115,y192&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1760385082046","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-kansler"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_44080","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":326,"numTeachers":30,"percentFrplEligible":36,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":71,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":20,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 2","studentTeacherRatio":"10.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":89.6,"schoolId":44080,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Moses Y Beach Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Moses Y Beach Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/connecticut/wallingford-public-school-district/moses-y-beach-elementary-school/44080"}
