As students enter the room, instead of having their head buried in their phone, they're intrigued by the Conversation Cart (whether it be lights, blow ups, bells) and they discuss the prompt with me. The questions range from silly and lighthearted to ones that help me learn a little more about their interests, opinions, and personalities. What might seem like a small interaction has created an intentional opportunity for me to connect individually with students before class even begins.\r\n\r\nStudents were immediately intrigued by the cart and wanted to see what questions were waiting for them. It has been fun to watch them think about their answers, laugh at some of the prompts, and even listen in to what their classmates have to say. Most importantly, it gives me a reason to have a genuine conversation with students who I might not otherwise get the chance to speak with one-on-one during a busy class period.\r\n\r\nAs we continue through the year, the Conversation Cart will remain part of our classroom routine. My hope is that these small conversations continue to build stronger relationships and a classroom environment where students know that they are seen, valued, and known as individuals.
