My students receive targeted math support, and having hands-on manipulatives has made abstract concepts finally \"click.\" Recently, during a lesson on multi-digit multiplication, students used place value tools and visual models to physically build and break apart numbers. One student who has historically struggled with confidence looked up and said, \"Ohhhh... I get it now!\" That moment alone was everything. Instead of memorizing steps, they are understanding the why behind the math.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, the excitement was immediate. My students noticed right away that these tools were just for them. They carefully unpacked everything, asked thoughtful questions, and couldn't wait to use each item. For many of my learners, math has not always been their favorite subject — but having engaging, tactile materials made them feel like real mathematicians. It shifted their mindset from \"I can't do this\" to \"Let me try.\"\r\n\r\nBecause you contributed to this project, you've helped create a space where students feel safe to take risks and make mistakes. Right now, we are building on foundational number sense and problem-solving strategies. Our next steps include applying these tools to multi-step word problems, where students will use manipulatives to model their thinking before transitioning to more independent work. The goal is not just to solve problems, but to explain their reasoning with confidence.\r\n\r\nYour support has done more than provide supplies — it has built confidence, strengthened understanding, and reminded my students that there are people who believe in them.\r\n\r\nThank you for investing in their growth. 💙","fullyFundedDate":1763004132074,"projectUrl":"project/math-tools/9867606/","projectTitle":"Math Tools","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Navarro","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10303233_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1766003700743","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10303233"},{"teacherId":495897,"projectId":9697360,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generosity, our classroom has been transformed. My students are now using the new STEAM and literacy resources every single day, and the difference is remarkable. We've created a dedicated STEAM station that connects hands-on projects directly to the books we've read. This multi-sensory approach has helped my K–5 learners build a stronger foundation in literacy by turning abstract ideas from stories into real, tangible experiences.\r\n\r\nOne of our favorite recent moments happened after reading a science-themed picture book. Students immediately rushed to the new kits to design simple machines that matched events in the story. One group engineered a pulley to mimic how the character lifted supplies, while another created a miniature habitat to represent the setting. Watching them collaborate—building, measuring, testing, discussing, and revising—showed just how much deeper their comprehension became when they could physically explore the concepts.\r\n\r\nTheir reaction when the materials first arrived was priceless. Many students gasped, some cheered, and one student whispered, \"We get to build what we read?\" They couldn't wait to dive in. For many of them, this was the first time they had access to materials that made reading feel active, creative, and empowering.\r\n\r\nThese resources are already fostering essential future-ready skills like collaboration, critical thinking, and problem-solving. Students are not only understanding stories more deeply—they're making meaningful connections across academic disciplines. The STEAM station has become a place where literature, science, and creativity meet, making learning more engaging, relevant, and memorable.\r\n\r\nBecause students have shown such a strong interest in building structures, our next goal is to add a STEM cart that offers even more hands-on building and engineering activities. This will allow us to expand our current projects and give students access to new materials that challenge their creativity and problem-solving skills. I also hope to introduce basic circuit materials so students can begin exploring how electricity works and incorporate simple circuits into the models they design. These additions will help us continue nurturing their curiosity, confidence, and love for learning.\r\nThank you again for opening the door to richer learning experiences. Your support has made a lasting impact on our classroom, and we are excited to continue growing because of you.","fullyFundedDate":1758815069602,"projectUrl":"project/full-steam-ahead/9697360/","projectTitle":"Full STEAM Ahead","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Rosa-Donch","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp495897_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1758663371776","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/495897"},{"teacherId":3378163,"projectId":9448978,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generous donations, my first graders started the school year with excitement. We use it during small group reading rotations and as a literacy center activity to reinforce sight word recognition, spelling, and phonics skills in a fun, hands-on way. One standout moment was during a recent lesson on CVC words—students used the Word Pop game to build and identify simple words like \"cat,\" \"dog,\" and \"hat,\" and they were thrilled every time they got a word correct. It turned routine practice into a game, making even reluctant readers eager to participate. The tactile fidget poppers paired with word-building made the activity accessible and enjoyable for all learners.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, their faces lit up with curiosity and excitement. Many of them were already familiar with fidget toys, so incorporating them into learning made the experience even more appealing. They immediately began exploring the pieces and asking questions about how to play. Their enthusiasm was contagious, and it sparked a sense of joy and motivation across the classroom. Moving forward, we plan to use the game to support our upcoming unit on word families and blends. The goal is to deepen their understanding through repetition and play, helping them grow as confident and fluent readers.","fullyFundedDate":1736297657111,"projectUrl":"project/popping-into-reading-skills/9029591/","projectTitle":"Popping Into Reading Skills!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Chambers","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6626981"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_43560","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":575,"numTeachers":49,"percentFrplEligible":65,"percentAsian":4,"percentBlack":14,"percentWhite":24,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":52,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"11.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":76.6,"schoolId":43560,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Newfield Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Newfield Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/connecticut/stamford-public-schools/newfield-elementary-school/43560"}
