I have purchased many materials that have been necessary to help my students become better readers. Using my own funds is not sustainable, which is why I am so grateful for Donors Choose and donors, like you, who have helped to bring high quality materials into the classroom I share with young learners.\r\n\r\nYour funding enabled me to purchase two sets of decodable readers. These are books for beginning readers and struggling readers that contain words using only the letter-sound relationships (phonetic code) the child has already been taught. Previously, the books I would have given students would have had some words with phonics patterns students had not been taught, and so they would have struggled trying to decode the unfamiliar words. \r\n\r\nThe students I work with have LOVED reading these new books. They are highly motivated to read and figure out the words with the patterns they've learned. This past week, I sat with a student who used to hate to read on his own. He eagerly opened his decodable book and started to read. He patiently sounded out some words and fluently read others. He turned to me at the end and said, \"I love reading now!\"\r\n\r\nThank you so much for this gift and for your generosity.
