Our students now get to utilize brand new drum sticks and hi-hat and stand as well as percussive instruments like frame drums, shakers, claves, a cabasa, and guiros. Many students got to showcase their talents at our annual talent show with these new instruments as well! These instruments provided them the opportunity to de-stress and build positive connections with myself and their peers. \r\n\tStudents were curious when the packages started arriving. I asked them to help me unbox them and they did so with great excitement. They immediately began exploring the instruments and helping me discard our well-loved, but older instruments. A number of students expressed some ideas about how we could utilize these instruments in sessions and performances. My school's staff and administration team were impressed by the performances this year, and thanked students and myself for creating the opportunity -- an opportunity that couldn't have been completed as thoroughly without Donors Choose's support! \r\n\tThis experience grew our students' excitement for more opportunities to learn new instruments, confidence to play for therapeutic and performance purposes and created new opportunities for connection within sessions I facilitated.
