You made it possible for me to create and offer a safe comfortable space for the students I work with at Metropolitan Business Academy. I am a trauma counselor at the school, with the added benefit of providing a capstone experience in Applied Theater for a great group of seniors, and offering trauma informed equity education for all, staff and students. \r\n\r\nThe donations you provided allowed me to create for my students a space to relax and take deep breaths. The rug, pillows, floor seats and lamps have become a comfortable 'go to' space where the students can retreat, rest and chat when their anxiety rises. It has also a been a great space for the Applied Theater students to gather, for a sense of togetherness when we have classroom discussions, and when they are creating together, either writing, rehearsing lines, or doing other group work. The space has also been used by students who have come to me overwhelmed with worries. I sit with them, chat, and allow them to rest. The students have been grateful for the space. \r\n\r\nThe other resources provided were art supplies for students to use in the space, in my office during sessions, and during classroom activities. I am lucky that my position allows me to not only interact with students in my classroom and on my caseload, but also to engage with other students in the school, when my fellow colleagues invite me into their classrooms to offer trauma informed group activities for their students. \r\n \r\nWithout your donations I would not have been able to create a place of comfort for my students to feel 'at home' while at school, and they have been vocal in their appreciation. I am forever humbled by your generosity.","fullyFundedDate":1756556607642,"projectUrl":"project/ms-ls-safe-space/9649644/","projectTitle":"Ms. L's Safe Space","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. LaToya","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10223341_orig.jpg?crop=486,486,x75,y44&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1756151029919","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10223341"},{"teacherId":5261231,"projectId":8951159,"letterContent":"Our class has benefited greatly from your gift of supplies. We were able to take a dark office and brighten it up by cleaning, decorating the walls, and making it into an enjoyable classroom!\r\nMy students enjoyed opening the boxes and seeing what kinds of items were inside for us. The flair pens have been a huge hit, as many of my high schoolers like using colorful pens rather than black or blue ink. This was also great for creating anchor charts around the room. \r\nCleaning and disinfecting our room daily has greatly impacted how students interact with the space. They work hard to keep it neat because they feel a sense of ownership; it's not just a classroom they have to be in.","fullyFundedDate":1731953201708,"projectUrl":"project/classroom-essentials-shipment-2024-11-1/8951159/","projectTitle":"Classroom Essentials Shipment: 2024-11-18","teacherDisplayName":"Dr. Moro","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp5261231_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1522244374470","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/jmoro"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_74071","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":380,"numTeachers":36,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":4,"percentBlack":34,"percentWhite":8,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":50,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"10.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":59.7,"schoolId":74071,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Metropolitan Business Academy on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Metropolitan Business Academy","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/connecticut/new-haven-public-schools/metropolitan-business-academy/74071"}
