They began sharing ideas for games and activities they could lead for other students. Their enthusiasm quickly turned into action as they worked together to plan activity stations that would be fun, inclusive, and accessible to students of different ages and ability levels. It was exciting to see them realize that these resources were not just new equipment for our PE classes—they were tools they could use to help others.\r\n\r\nOur students are now preparing to put their leadership skills into practice by organizing and running wellness activities for our school community. They will set up equipment, explain games and rules, encourage younger students, and make adjustments so that everyone can participate and feel successful. As they continue planning, they are learning how important communication, teamwork, patience, and kindness are when leading others. I am especially proud to see students who are normally participants in PE become leaders who are responsible for creating positive experiences for their peers.\r\n\r\nThe next step is to bring these plans to life through schoolwide wellness activities, field day events, and family engagement opportunities. These resources will continue to be used throughout the year, giving students repeated opportunities to practice leadership while promoting movement, cooperation, and inclusion. Most importantly, my students are learning that they have the ability to make a difference in their school community simply by helping others feel welcomed, active, and successful. Thank you for giving them the resources and opportunity to make that difference.","fullyFundedDate":1774285660850,"projectUrl":"project/students-leading-wellness-for-our-school/10140083/","projectTitle":"Students Leading Wellness for Our School Community","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Jalbert","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7637375"},{"teacherId":7637375,"projectId":9950229,"letterContent":"This project has had a powerful impact on our students by turning physical activity into an interactive, engaging learning experience. The BlazePods use lights and movement to help students practice important skills like coordination, reaction time, focus, and self-regulation. Instead of simply following directions, students actively respond to visual cues, which helps them stay engaged and learn through movement. Because activities can be easily adjusted, the technology allows every student—regardless of ability level—to participate and feel successful.\r\n\r\nWhat excites students most is how fun and motivating the BlazePods are. The lights feel like a game rather than an exercise, and students are eager to challenge themselves and each other. Many students who are typically hesitant during physical activity are more willing to try because the Pods provide immediate feedback and clear goals. The fast pace and bright colors keep students focused and moving, often for longer periods than traditional equipment would allow.\r\n\r\nSeveral students who need additional physical or behavioral supports have especially connected with this technology. Students using wheelchairs can access wall-mounted Pods, while others working on balance, coordination, or impulse control benefit from the structured yet exciting activities. Perhaps most meaningfully, students have gained confidence and leadership skills by using the BlazePods to lead fitness activities for younger grades as part of a schoolwide community service project. This experience has helped them see themselves as capable role models, strengthening both their physical skills and their sense of belonging within our school community.","fullyFundedDate":1765899020765,"projectUrl":"project/blazepod-ambassadors-helping-our-studen/9950229/","projectTitle":"BlazePod Ambassadors: Helping Our Students Serve the School Community","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Jalbert","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7637375"},{"teacherId":7637375,"projectId":9801473,"letterContent":"The BlazePods have had an incredible impact on my students—not only at Woodland School but throughout the entire East Hartford Public Schools district. These tools have allowed students with exceptionalities and other special accommodations to fully participate and thrive in physical education settings.\r\n\r\nAt Woodland, where many students face behavioral, emotional, and developmental challenges, the BlazePods have transformed engagement. The visual cues and instant feedback capture students' attention, motivate participation, and help them build focus, coordination, and reaction skills in a fun and inclusive way.\r\n\r\nAs I've introduced BlazePods across other East Hartford schools, they've become a powerful tool for differentiation. They allow me to adapt lessons to meet a wide range of abilities, from students working on basic motor skills to those developing agility and teamwork. Most importantly, they help students experience success and confidence in movement — something that carries over into their classroom learning and social interactions.\r\n\r\nThanks to your support the BlazePods have become a unifying resource that supports equity, engagement, and joy in physical education for all students.","fullyFundedDate":1760604001781,"projectUrl":"project/building-lifelong-fitness-through-reacti/9801473/","projectTitle":"Building Lifelong Fitness Through Reaction and Agility Training","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Jalbert","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7637375"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_63082","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":128,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":90,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":27,"percentWhite":8,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":48,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":2,"gradesServed":"Not specified","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Record","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":null},"inStateSupporters":62.0,"schoolId":63082,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Woodland School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Woodland School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/connecticut/east-hartford-public-schools/woodland-school/63082"}
