When I polled my class at the start of this project, nearly 90% of my students told me they had never read a non-fiction book before. (Note: Students will return the books at the end of the year so that next year's students can enjoy them.)\r\n\r\nTo accomplish the goal of developing an appreciation of reading for its own sake, students read for 30 minutes a week independently and 30 minutes in class. It has been incredible to watch a quiet classroom of 25 students absorbed in their psychology books.
