Whether they're watching instructional videos, listening to educational podcasts, or practicing on language-learning apps, students can now work at their own pace without being distracted by outside noise. \r\n\r\nAt the same time, our new system for safely storing cell phones has reduced one of the biggest distractions in our classroom. Students now begin class with fewer interruptions, and transitions between activities are smoother. This structure has created a calmer, more respectful learning environment and has helped reinforce responsible habits that students can carry with them beyond our classroom.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping us create a space where students can feel both focused and empowered to succeed.","fullyFundedDate":1731503790596,"projectUrl":"project/secure-and-sound-safe-space-for-phones/8723222/","projectTitle":"Secure and Sound: Safe Space for Phones and Focused Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Hemenway","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9169022"},{"teacherId":6783783,"projectId":9026827,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generous support, our classroom now has a welcoming, flexible learning space—with a brand-new futon! This simple addition has made a big difference in our students' daily experience.\r\n\r\nThe futon has become a favorite spot for independent reading, small-group discussions, and brain breaks. One of the most memorable moments was watching a group of students gather there for a peer review session—they were so comfortable and focused, it truly felt like a collaborative learning lounge. When the futon first arrived, the students couldn't believe it was really for them. One said, \"This makes our classroom feel like home!\"\r\n\r\nSince then, the futon has been used to support both academic and emotional needs. It's a safe, calm space where students can refocus, relax during tough moments, or engage more deeply in learning away from their desks.\r\n\r\nRight now, we're in the middle of a book club unit, and the futon is the go-to spot for reading time and literature circle discussions. Next, students will be writing their own narratives, and many have already claimed the futon as their ideal creative space.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping us build not just a classroom, but a community. On behalf of my students and myself, I want to express our deepest gratitude for your generous contribution to our DonorsChoose project. Thanks to your support, we were able to provide much-needed snacks to fuel the academic success of my high school class.\r\n\r\nHaving access to healthy and energizing snacks during the school day has made a tremendous difference in the way my students approach their learning. These snacks have not only kept their energy levels high but have also created a positive classroom environment. They can now focus better during lessons, participate more actively, and engage in their academic work with enthusiasm.\r\n\r\nYour kindness and generosity have shown my students that there are people out there who care about their success and well-being. They feel more motivated and supported knowing that others believe in their potential. It's heartwarming to see how something as simple as a snack can have such a profound impact on their learning experience.\r\n\r\nOnce again, thank you for investing in the future of my students. Your gift has made a meaningful difference in their lives and education, and we are incredibly appreciative of your support.","fullyFundedDate":1733227976001,"projectUrl":"project/fuel-academic-success-for-student-growth/8720913/","projectTitle":"Fuel Academic Success for Student Growth","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Grove Raider","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6692472"},{"teacherId":3483728,"projectId":8798296,"letterContent":"My students have greatly benefitted from your generous gifts! \r\n\r\nInitially, I let the students know that I was requesting donations for our class to Donors Choose. I had my students generate the list of the materials I would ultimately provide to Donors Choose. As each box came into the classroom, the students opened them and their faces shone with amazement that their request had been met. As the boxes kept coming, and they kept opening, they were overtaken by the generosity of each new box! When they asked me who Donors Choose was, I told them: \"Generous people who care about you as a person, your education, and your creative growth\" Being able to \"play\" during one period a week has propelled the students to complete their assignments with more continuity, purpose, and pride. \r\n\r\nAs they play, I have noticed more conversation between them. I have witnessed trust and empathy. The conversation piece during play, I now see spilling into more meaningful conversations during class. Play fosters trust, trust fosters taking healthful risk. Through play, they've become more expressive, allowing themselves to listen to each other and to themselves, Through play, they've created a safe, risk-free environment where they can talk about things they otherwise would not. I'm happy to say that even their journal writings have become more expressive, more introspective. Our class has become such a haven for them and me, that we are thinking of \"looping\" classes so as to maintain this positive, constructive atmosphere! \r\n\r\nI thank all my Donors for their generosity!","fullyFundedDate":1734571580458,"projectUrl":"project/critical-thought-through-play/8798296/","projectTitle":"Critical Thought Through Play","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Gentile","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3483728"},{"teacherId":9461745,"projectId":8811069,"letterContent":"As you highlighted in your comment which supplemented your generous donation, high school educators provide students with a lot of mental health support during their school day, no matter their area of discipline. I knew that with the appropriate tools, I could better support the social emotional as well as sensory needs of my students so that they are more confident and better able to access their content as well as relationships within the building. \r\n\r\nEvery one of my students utilizes fidgets that were funded through this project every time they are in my room. They often report feeling more regulated after being in my room and utilizing the fidgets available. On multiple occasions, students have asked to borrow the fidgets for the day so that they can feel more confident and comfortable going into stressful situations (e.g. presentations, meetings). Because I validate students, work to understand their strengths/experiences/needs, and provide them with the tools/strategies they need to be successful, I have built mutual respect and trust. In each instance when a student has borrowed a fidget, they have brought it back by the end of the day. \r\n\r\nMy students also report having fun when they are at speech. We play games from this project together and, in some instances, have asked other teachers \r\n\r\nI have several students who have described my office as their safe space. I know that providing fidgets and building connection through games is part of the reason I have been able to do that. Your contributions have gone a long way in making students feel seen and supported in my schools. Your generosity and investment in supporting made it so that my offices are spaces where students feel seen, build trust, have fun, learn, and develop their speech and language skills. Thank you so much for making all of this possible.","fullyFundedDate":1727056259571,"projectUrl":"project/building-rapport-relationships-and-ski/8811069/","projectTitle":"Building Rapport, Relationships, and Skills in Speech","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Korb","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9461745"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_43606","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":145,"numTeachers":39,"percentFrplEligible":57,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":15,"percentWhite":13,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":67,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 9","studentTeacherRatio":"3.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":70.0,"schoolId":43606,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about J.M.
