My students can be very disengaged and are chronically absent from class. I want to provide them with a warm, welcoming reading space that is filled with rich texts, comfortable chairs, and technology. My average daily attendance is about 60%, which leaves approximately 40% of my struggling readers without quality reading instruction. Comfortable seats will allow the students to enter new worlds during independent computer work. Creating this environment allows me to give them the opportunity to become better readers, and to motivate them to be present for school! Our class currently utilizes a computer-based program to target individual learning. Due to this, a portion of each class period is spent on the computers. Having adequate, comfortable seating for my students will provide them with the tools to physically access their program, while learning skills necessary for life, school, and career.
