I have been astounded at the level of craftsmanship, dedication, and excitement that sewing has brought to the fifth and sixth graders! At conferences, parents were raving about the skills that their students learned. Many told me that they have been sewing with their kids at home (12 year old boys, asking their parents to sew with them- amazing!), and kids have been fixing various holes in fabric around the house. Some of my students who have behavioral challenges have stepped up as leaders. \r\n\r\nAll of this wouldn't have been possible without your donation. As soon as I opened the store box, all of the students gasped! They asked me to show them specific items, especially the colorful pencils (Ticonderoga are a hot item in 6th grade!)\r\n\r\nStudents will be using this economy throughout the year and applying our integer language required by state standards. As such, I give students the opportunity to stand and work if that helps them. I share my experiences and tell them they'll see me standing the entire class. Because of this, I understand how some kids need this option for them to be successful as well. I have students advocating for their needs and asking if they can use the stand up desks. That's huge for them.\r\n\r\nSeveral parents have already come in to the classroom, and their first instinct is to stand at the desks as well. Just about all of them stated that they wish they had had this when they were in school. When I first started teaching, this never would have been an option for students. The students absolutely love the new climbing shoes, chalk, and holds—so much so that over 100 students have already taken the class this year. The 7th and 8th graders can't stop talking about how much better the wall feels and looks after the revamp, and even a few high schoolers have stopped by just to say how jealous they are of our upgraded setup.\r\nOur teachers also see the impact every day. Students leave the climbing room with hands covered in chalk, excitedly comparing their favorite routes and discussing new projects they're working on. The energy in the room is contagious, and the enthusiasm the kids have for climbing has created a vibrant, positive atmosphere that extends well beyond the class itself.\r\nOne of the most meaningful outcomes of your support is the way it has opened doors for students who haven't traditionally been involved in sports or social groups. Climbing has become a place where they feel comfortable, confident, and connected. They are discovering a passion they didn't know they had and forming genuine connections with peers who share their interests—often for the first time.\r\nWe are incredibly grateful for your contribution and truly believe this is only the beginning.
