Living in a rural town means our classroom budgets are limited and often spent on supplies for science projects or other class materials. Because I am a lover of books, additions to our class library come from my personal money. \r\n I chose non fiction reading material because it's become harder over the past few years to engage students in reading. Technology is more exciting than books and many students don't have the interest or attention span to read chapter books. Having historical fiction, graphic novels and fact books in the classroom are books that the kids enjoy. During our daily independent reading they share facts they learn with me and each other. They've also enjoyed making connections to content we have been learning. Scholastic News is exciting because it lets us read about current events. Scholastic Math presents real life math. It's been especially great for my best math students. They enjoy working together on challenging problems.\r\n I also want to thank you for modeling kindness for my students.
