They didn't have novel units before, and one of their favorite things this year has been reading the books that were donated. I am so grateful you have enabled them to increase their love of literature. When we discuss the novels together in class, I have noticed how much their critical thinking skills improve.\r\n\r\nMany of the novels have direct connections to history and the world. My 7th graders were able to learn more about the Great Depression, the Dust Bowl, and immigration by reading \"Esperanza Rising\". They enjoyed learning about the Dust Bowl because it occurred in our area. Their knowledge of the world and history is increasing by reading these novels. The impact of this is particularly significant in a rural area where many don't travel or experience life beyond how they live every day. \r\n\r\nMost of my classes have five to six novels to read this year. We are almost done with most of the second novels. I know my students will continue to develop important literary skills through these books. I can't wait to see them enjoy the coming novels.
