ELA games have been incredible resources for helping my students close the learning gap caused by COVID. These materials have made reading and language arts lessons engaging, interactive, and accessible, allowing students to practice essential skills in a fun and supportive way.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the new books and games, their eyes lit up—they were excited to explore, read, and play. Using the SPOT books during guided reading sessions, we've focused on comprehension, vocabulary, and critical thinking. The Can Do! games have given students opportunities to work together, practice grammar, spelling, and reading fluency, and apply skills in a hands-on, collaborative environment. One memorable moment was when a small group of students worked through a challenging game and cheered as they \"leveled up\" their skills—they were proud of themselves and motivated to continue learning.\r\n\r\nThanks to these resources, I have been able to differentiate instruction more effectively, providing extra support for students who need it while giving advanced learners engaging challenges. The next step for my students is to apply these skills to independent reading projects, writing activities, and creative group assignments, continuing to build confidence and close any remaining gaps from the disruptions caused by COVID.","fullyFundedDate":1723166547038,"projectUrl":"project/bye-bye-covid-gap/8571011/","projectTitle":"Bye-Bye Covid Gap","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Lopez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6650800_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1615062073553","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6650800"},{"teacherId":6650800,"projectId":8087156,"letterContent":"The How Ordinary People Change the World series has brought excitement and inspiration to our classroom. Just as importantly, they are learning life lessons about courage, perseverance, and the power of making a difference—no matter how small you are or where you come from.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading time is filled with curiosity and conversation. Students eagerly gather to follow along as we read aloud, discussing how each historical figure overcame challenges and connecting the stories to their own lives.\r\n\r\nOne student who had been hesitant to read aloud now volunteers, and another struggling with self-confidence proudly shared, \"If Rosa Parks could be brave, I can be brave at school.\" These books are inspiring my students to see themselves as capable of making a positive difference.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has helped create a classroom where reading is not just a subject, but a source of joy, inspiration, and empowerment.","fullyFundedDate":1701715088141,"projectUrl":"project/how-ordinary-people-change-the-world-boo/8087156/","projectTitle":"How Ordinary People Change the World Books","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Lopez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6650800_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1615062073553","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6650800"},{"teacherId":8018736,"projectId":8570997,"letterContent":"Math manipulatives are helpful because they provide students with a hands-on, visual way to understand abstract mathematical concepts.
