Thank you so much for your generosity and belief in our students. Because of your support, we can now provide these essential, hands-on tools that will fundamentally change how our class approaches mathematics.\r\n\r\nThe math racks aren't just colorful beads on a string; they are powerful visual aids that allow students to physically see and manipulate numbers. This hands-on approach is critical for developing strong mathematical thinking in young learners.\r\n\r\nSpecifically, the math racks will help us achieve three core learning goals:\r\n\r\nModeling Complements of Ten: We will use the red and white beads to easily model numbers that add up to ten (like 7 + 3 or 4 + 6). Understanding these complements is the foundation for mental math and fluency.\r\n\r\nComposing and Decomposing Numbers: The racks make it crystal clear how numbers can be broken apart (decomposed) and put back together (composed). For example, a student can easily see that 14 is a full ten and four more.\r\n\r\nBuilding Addition and Subtraction Strategies: By visualizing number relationships, students move beyond simple counting to develop efficient strategies for adding and subtracting. This visual modeling is key to long-term success, helping them grasp complex arithmetic concepts easily.\r\n\r\nThank you once again for empowering our classroom with these incredible resources. Your gift isn't just a set of tools; it's an investment in the mathematical confidence and critical thinking of every student in our room. I put it on myself to fund snacks for our students, as those costs never end; I have found I need help securing some other, foundational, tools to really help our students learn and practice self regulation, blend content learning with regulation techniques, and support their \"buy in\" to systems that are sometimes complex as we both reward success but also incentivizes participation.\r\nSome of the items you helped purchase included a solar system \"pop-it\" - and I can gleefully report that our science minded students have shown clear preference in using this particular tool for self regulation. Another item that helps blend learning and regulation is the 1-100 numbered pop-it grid! I have been able to apply THIS tool during both WIN (What I Need) math groups and student driven regulation. \r\nOne of the most fruitful systems incorporated into my classroom & program processes is a monthly drawing. Students earn tickets by participating in challenging activities - like a spelling bee, or cushion sitting meditation, or just being brave. The students put their tickets into a monthly drawing; I have been able to include some excellent STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) projects that are high desire items. Unlike so other classroom systems, students cannot lose their chance at these items - no infraction can \"un-earn\" a ticket - so it has served as a go to for buy in. This has meant that even when students feel defeated by their own behaviors we have these raffle type award processes to help them feel recognized for participating, for trying new things, for being open minded risk takers.\r\nYour help has elevated our game and I am very thankful.
