We talked about how we could use all the differs items to measure items in our classroom. The next day we measured item that were gathered. We made choices on what would be better for measuring each item. We used the links, rulers and cubes for smaller items. The measuring tape was definitely the favorite. \r\n We put together two measuring kits on our free choice shelf. Children can use anything on the shelf any time they want. We should have made more than 2 kits. They loved it and encouraged to work in pairs.\r\n The next week we had each child put together their own kit. They took one ruler, one tape measure and counted out 10 cubes and links. Next they were paired up with 2 of our fifth graders. We went all over the school and the had a paper to write what they measured and document how long it was using the tools in their measuring kit.\r\n That day each child got to take home the measuring kit and share their measuring knowledge with their families. We received lots of pictures of the kids measuring at home. I love when our 3 year old can take home the learning experiences and share them with families. They love being the teacher. \r\n In April we plan on having fun with lots of science, bugs and planting. I can't believe it's almost the end of the year.
