Your generosity is helping create meaningful opportunities for my students to grow not only as readers and thinkers, but also as more self-aware, reflective, and future-ready young adults. Many of my students are preparing for life beyond high school while also navigating real responsibilities and challenges, and these materials are giving them the structure and support they need to reflect, make decisions, and take greater ownership of their growth.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the journals, dry-erase boards, and discussion tools, they were excited to have resources that felt purposeful, personal, and made for them. The journals have given students a dedicated space to analyze reading, reflect on habits, set goals, and track their thinking over time. The whiteboards and conversation tools have helped make thinking visible during coaching-centered lessons, allowing students to compare choices, revise ideas, and engage more fully in meaningful dialogue. These materials are already helping students participate more actively, think more deeply, and communicate more confidently with one another.\r\n\r\nAs we continue this work, these resources will support students in building the kinds of habits that matter in college, career, and life—self-regulation, persistence, reflection, and intentional decision-making. Through character analysis and coached reflection, students are learning to look closely at both texts and themselves, recognize patterns, and make more thoughtful choices moving forward. Thank you for investing in my students and for helping create a classroom where growth, reflection, and readiness for the future are truly possible.","fullyFundedDate":1772844769078,"projectUrl":"project/coaching-for-college-career-readiness/10073209/","projectTitle":"Coaching for College & Career Readiness Through Character Analysis","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Mendez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1905242_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1603248306307","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/monica-mendez"},{"teacherId":1905242,"projectId":9842361,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting my project, Supporting Students Facing Food Insecurity. Your generosity is making a very real difference for my students each day. Many of my students come to school carrying responsibilities and challenges that go far beyond academics, and for some, access to consistent meals or snacks is not guaranteed. Because of your support, I am able to offer students simple snacks in the classroom so they can stay focused, regulated, and ready to learn.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw that snacks were available, their reaction was immediate gratitude and relief. Some quietly asked if they could have one, while others simply smiled, grateful to know there was something there if they needed it. These snacks are already helping create a classroom environment where students feel safe, cared for, and supported. A small snack may seem simple, but it can make a huge difference in helping a student settle in, participate in class discussions, and stay engaged in reading, writing, and learning throughout the day.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, these resources will continue to help remove a basic barrier to learning. When the materials arrived, students immediately began sorting pens, colored pencils, and cardstock while brainstorming who in our building might need encouragement most. What struck me most was how seriously they took the responsibility. They weren't just \"making cards\" — they were thinking deeply about audience, tone, and impact. Students revised messages using correction tape to ensure clarity and kindness, added thoughtful visuals with colored pencils and stickers, and carefully sealed envelopes addressed to staff members, peers, and even families.\r\n\r\nWithin the first week, encouraging notes appeared in staff mailboxes during a particularly stressful grading period, inside library books for students to discover unexpectedly, and on lockers before exams. One student quietly shared that leaving a message for someone else made them feel calmer about their own stress. Another student asked if we could create a rotating \"kindness team\" so the initiative continues all semester. The materials you provided are being used daily — not just for writing, but for practicing empathy, communication, and leadership.\r\n\r\nNext, students are planning themed encouragement weeks aligned to moments of high pressure, such as testing and college application season. They are also developing guidelines for respectful, inclusive messaging so that every note strengthens belonging. Because of you, our students are experiencing firsthand how small, intentional actions can shape school culture in meaningful ways.
